Clear Bag Policy and Metal Detectors at Zable Stadium in 2025
Furthering its commitment to a first class and secure environment at home athletic events, William & Mary will implement the use of walk-through metal detectors at the entrances to athletic venues (both ticketed and non-ticketed events) beginning in the fall of 2025. This enhanced security method mirrors standard practice at most major professional and intercollegiate athletic events throughout the country and compliments the
Clear Bag Policy already in place. Fans will proceed through metal detectors prior to having their tickets scanned or entering a venue for non-tickets events. Entrants will not need to remove items such as belts, cell phones, coins, jackets, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes or other small objects. If additional screening is necessary, security staff will ask the individual to proceed to a secondary screening area, where they will be asked to divest themselves of certain items and pass through again until clear.
W&M is off to a 1-1 start this season after bouncing back from a 23-21 season-opening setback at Furman with a 28-27 win against Maine last Saturday. First-year starting quarterback
Tyler Hughes has led a balanced offensive attack and leads the team in rushing (130 yds) while also throwing three touchdown passes. Wide receiver
Deven Thompson ranks 23rd nationally with 21.5 yards per catch. Led by All-America linebacker
Luke Banbury, who ranks third nationally in tackles per game (15.0) and tied for first in PBU (4), the Tribe ranks 15th in the country in total defense (280.0) and 17th in passing defense (138.0). Additionally, W&M has forced at least one turnover in 12 straight games dating back to last season. Head Coach
Mike London currently has 99 career wins and needs just one more for 100.
Virginia owns a 1-1 record after opening the season with a 48-7 win against Coastal Carolina and losing at NC State, 35-31. Running back J'Mari Taylor has rushed for five touchdowns and leads the ACC with 6.74 yards per carry. Defensively, Landon Danley leads the Cavaliers with 13 tackles, while Ethan Minter has posted eight stops with 2 TFL and an interception.
Saturday's contest at Virginia will mark the 40th meeting between the two schools, as UVA holds a 32-6-1 advantage in the all-time series. W&M's last victory in the series came in 2009, while the Cavaliers have won the last six matchups.
