Carter Lovasz was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the eighth round of the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday, becoming the 44th Major League draft pick in program history.
Lovasz, the school's career leader in saves with 21, was taken with the 247th overall pick on day two of the draft. The right-hander had 73 strikeouts in 49.0 innings this past year, holding opposing hitters to a .249 average and racking up two saves. For his career, the Midlothian, Va. native owns a 3.89 ERA with 225 strikeouts and ranks top-10 all-time in strikeouts, opponents batting average (.219), and strikeouts per nine innings (10.2).
Lovasz racked up numerous accolades with the Green & Gold, earning All-CAA honors in 2023 and 2024. He was also named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American in 2022, along with CAA All-Rookie honors, after a standout first-year campaign that saw him post a 2.94 ERA with five saves and a 41/12 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
DRAFT NOTES
- Lovasz is the 44th Tribe player to be drafted and the 22nd pitcher.
- His selection marks the third straight year that W&M has had a player drafted. The Tribe has six draft picks over that span.
- He's also the 14th W&M product to be taken in the top eight rounds, joining former teammates Nate Knowles (2024) and Ben Williamson (2023) in that club.
