Goldknopf's Top 10 Leads Men's Golf in Maryland

IJAMSVILLE, Md.— A strong showing from freshman Camden Goldknopf paced the William & Mary men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Testudo Cup on Saturday and Sunday at The PB Dye Club.
 
The Tribe posted scores of 294-288-294 on for a 12-over total. Maryland, the hosts of the event, were crowned the team champions of the 14-team field with an 11-under total.
 
Goldknopf scored a top-10 with an even-par total for the week to finish T-10. The Tribe freshman opened with an even-par 72 before posting a 2-under 70 in the afternoon round Saturday. He would go on to shoot 74 Sunday's final round to post his even-par total.
 
Max Johnson matched Goldknopf's 2-udner 70 in the second round on Saturday and went on to finish T-18 at 2-over. Johnson shot a scorching 32 on the back to get into red figures, using four birdies on the side to do so. He followed that effort up with a 1-under 71 on Sunday to climb inside the top-10, shooting 34 on the back that time around. Johnson posted 77 in Saturday's opening round.
 
Logan Hunter was the pace setter for the Tribe in the opening round, shooting his own 2-under 70. The Tribe senior was able to keep a clean card with only one bogey over the opening 18. He followed the effort up with scores of 74 and 77 to finish T-24 with a 221 total.
 
The Tribe's lineup was rounded out by Preston Burton (T-35, 75-74-75) and Luke Walmet (T-63, 82-75-74). Grady Williams played as an individual for the Tribe, posting scores of 82-74-77 to finish in a tie for 65th.
