CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J.—Logan Hunter finds himself near the top of the leaderboard as the pacesetter for William & Mary men's golf following the opening round of the 2025 CAA Men's Golf Championships at Union League National GC in New Jersey. Hunter posted an even-par 72 for W&M.
The Tribe posted a team score of 16-over 304 to sit in seventh out of 11 teams after the conference championship's first 18 holes. Charleston and Delaware currently sit in first at 4-over, with Charleston one shot back in second.
After an early bogey at the par-5 2
nd, Hunter settled himself in with a birdie on the next par-5, the 571-yard 5
th hole, to get back to even. The Tribe senior made another birdie at the 7
th before a bogey a hole later to turn in even-par 36. Hunter would match that birdie on the back nine, offsetting a bogey at the 10
th with a birdie on the par-3 16
th hole to card his 72. He sits currently in a tie for fifth.
Preston Burton had a solid opening round as well, posting a 1-over 73 to be T-11 following Sunday. The sophomore found himself 2-over through five holes but then found some consistency. He rattled off four straight pars to finish off the front nine with a 38 before shooting a 1-under 35 on the back. Burton kept up the steady play making eight pars with a birdie on the 14
th to get him into red figures on the side.
The Tribe counting scores were rounded out by
Max Johnson, who posted 78 and sits T-30, and
Camden Goldknopf who fired an 81 to sit T-44.
Luke Walmet (T-49) rounded out the W&M lineup with an 82.
The second round of play will be contested tomorrow morning with the third and final round played on Tuesday.
