SOUTHPORT, N.C.— Behind a second round 75 from junior
Avery Thompson, the William & Mary women's golf team bettered their opening round score by two at the 2025 CAA Women's Golf Championships.
The Tribe posted 318 on Saturday at St. James Plantation's Reserve Club in Southport, N.C.and sits in sixth place out of the 10 teams with a 36-hole total of 62-over 638. Charelston and UNCW are tied for the lead at 16-over heading into Sunday's final round.
Thompson finds herself inside the top-20, tied for 18
th, after a very steady round on Saturday. The Houston, Texas native finds carded 13 pars on the day and added a birdie at the par-4 15
th. She posted splits of 38-37 on the day after posting a 78 in the opening round for a 153 total.
Samantha Skinner was the pacesetter after the first round for the Tribe and posted an 80 in the second round on Saturday. The sophomore was solid again on the back nine of the Reserve Club, firing a 38 after shooting an even-par 36 the day prior. Her total of 157 slates her T-23.
Faith Garcia also shot an 80 on Saturday, shooting 40 on both sides. Garcia's highlight of the day was a birdie on the par-3 16
th, aiding her to a tie for 29
th after shooting 83 on Friday.
Jennifer Osborne sits T-31 after 36-holes after scores of 82-83. The Tribe lineup is rounded out by
Katie Suk who is tied for 34
th after shooting 83-84 over the first two rounds.
The final round will be contested tomorrow with W&M paired with Delaware and Elon.
