SOUTHPORT, N.C.—The William & Mary women's golf team sits in a tie for sixth after the opening round of the 2025 CAA Women's Golf Championships on Friday at the St. James Plantation's Reserve Club.
The Tribe posted a team score of 320 to finish 32-over par and be tied with Towson for sixth out of the 10 teams competing. Charleston and Delaware are both tied for the lead at 9-over after the opening 18 holes.
Samantha Skinner was the pacesetter for W&M on Friday, posting 77 to sit T-17. The Tribe sophomore, who started on the 10
th hole, began her day with a clean first nine, playing the Reserve Club's backside at even-par 36. Skinner made a bogey on the par-3 16
th before quickly getting the shot back with a birdie-4 on the par-5 17
th. She shot 41 on the front nine.
One shot behind Skinner was teammate
Avery Thompson. Thompson went out in 41 on the back nine before using a birdie on the 9
th, her final hole of the day, to post 1-over on the front. She currently sits in a tie for 21
st.
Jennifer Osborne finds herself T-29 after 18 holes of play. The freshman posted splits of 43-39 for an opening round 82.
Faith Garcia and
Katie Suk both are T-33 after Friday's action, posting scores of 83 to round out the W&M lineup.
Round two will be contested on Saturday with the final round being played on Sunday. The Tribe's tee times tomorrow range from 8:30-9:10 a.m. off the Reserve Club's first hole. W&M is paired with Campbell and Elon.
