SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.—The William & Mary men's golf team used a final round of 1-under 287, its lowest round of the season, to finish in the top half of a competitive field at the Babygrande Donald Ross Collegiate on Tuesday.

The Tribe finished in eighth place out of the 20-team field, posting scores of 295-297-287 over the three rounds at historic Mid Pines GC in North Carolina to open up the spring portion of the season.

The first round was played Monday, with the second round suspended later in the day due to weather. The second round resumed Tuesday morning with the third and final round immediately following. Chattanooga won the team title at 25-under.

Preston Burton was spurred on to a top-10 finish by an opening round, 4-under-par, 68, his lowest round to par of his career. He would ultimately go on to finish with a 2-under total of 214 to be T-8.

The sophomore kept a near immaculate card over Monday's first round with his only blemish being a bogey at the par-4 11th. Burton used birdies at 4,5,10,11 and 15 to finish well into red figures after the opening 18.

After getting it to 5-under total in the early parts of round two he would card a 74 followed by an even-par 72 in the final round to record his second top-10 finish of the year.

Max Johnson found himself in a tie for 68th when play was called for rain on Monday but used a strong final round to climb the leaderboard and finish T-29 at 4-over. The Auburn transfer opened his spring with scores of 77 and 74 over the opening 36 holes before going deep in round three with a 3-under 69.

Four of Johnson's six birdies on the round came on Mid Pines' front nine allowing him to go out in 33. He followed that up with two more birdies on the back to shoot 36 and move 21 spots up the leaderboard in the final round.

Freshman Camden Goldknopf was not far behind Johnson, aiding the Tribe's final round efforts with an even-par 72 of his own. The Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. native opened with scores of 75-74 to total 5-over and finish in a tie for 33rd.

Logan Hunter posted three carbon-copy 75s for the Tribe to total 9-over 225 and finish T-54.

Luke Walmet rounded out the W&M lineup, shooting 81-83-74 to finish T-90.
