William & Mary announced today that head volleyball coach
Ryan Adams is resigning after three years at the helm of the Tribe's program.
"While I am disappointed he's leaving, I respect Ryan's decision to step away from being a head coach," said Brian D. Mann, Director of Athletics. "All of us understand those times when we need to make the best decisions for ourselves and our families personally, as well as professionally. The entire Tribe family wishes him the best."
"Even though I spent a relatively short time in Williamsburg, I witnessed so much growth in all of our programs, as well as in volleyball. I am excited to see who is going to take over the program and expand on the foundation that we built," said Adams. "I know that under Brian's leadership the success will continue."
Adams, who grew up on the West Coast, will relocate to be closer to family.
W&M has named
Emma Minnick as its interim volleyball coach and will begin the search for Adams' successor immediately. Minnick earned her Master of Business Analytics degree at the Raymond A. Mason School of Business in 2023 while completing her collegiate playing career at W&M. She joined the W&M volleyball staff as an assistant coach in December 2023.
Adams, the Tribe's 10th head volleyball coach, was hired in January 2023 and in each of his first two seasons as head coach, led W&M to eight CAA victories, the most for the program since 2009. In 2023, the Tribe finished with 13 victories, equaling the school's most in 15 years. This year the team finished at 12-15, with a conference record of 7-9.
Prior to W&M, Adams was the head coach at Lafayette College for four years and he was named Patriot League Coach of the Year in 2021. Before that, he was at Bucknell from 2014-2016, after which he spent a year with the Tribe as an assistant coach from 2016-17.
