Men's Basketball Hosts Monmouth for Gold Rush on Saturday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary welcomes Monmouth to Kaplan Arena on Saturday afternoon for the program's annual Gold Rush. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., and the game will be televised regionally on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) with Jay Colley, Brandon Britt '14, and Bobby Dwyer on the call.

Fans are encouraged to wear gold and help us #PakTheKap. The first 1,000 fans will receive a FREE Gold t-shirt courtesy of Students for University Advancement. At halftime, fans can check out the Diaper Derby sponsored by Virginia 529. W&M will honor its men's basketball alums and former Tribe head coach Tony Shaver on Saturday afternoon as well.

Fans can catch the action on the Tribe Sports Network with Andrew Phillips and Misha Jones '19 on the call. Locally in Williamsburg, fans can listen in on The Tide 92.3 FM.

Parking Information
With Saturday being the annual Gold Rush, a high traffic volume is expected on campus. Fans are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra time in attending the game vs. Monmouth.
 
Fans will have options for general parking in the Kaplan Lot for $5 by using the Passport App. See signage or speak with a parking attendant for parking codes. As the Kaplan Lot fills, parking will also be available along the road on Brooks Street (from Compton Drive to McClurg Dr.) and on McClurg Dr. through the Passport App as well. Staff will be on hand to direct fans to the next closest lot.

William & Mary Athletics, in conjunction with the William & Mary Police Department, has implemented a clear bag policy that regulates the size and type of bag that may be carried into W&M Athletics facilities during the 2023-24 year, including Busch Field, Kaplan Arena, Martin Family Stadium, Plumeri Park, and Zable Stadium. W&M News and Notes
 
- Saturday's game marks the Tribe's 10th annual Gold Rush Game. In the previous nine Gold Rush Games, the Tribe has averaged nearly 80 points per contest in posting a 6-3 record. It marks the first time W&M has faced Monmouth in the Gold Rush Game. The game has also been among the best attended annually in the CAA, averaging 5,080 fans.
 
- Senior Gabe Dorsey erupted for a career-high 30 points in the win over Hampton on Thursday. With his career night, Dorsey surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career. He has 993 points over his three-year Tribe career, averaging 12.7 points across 78 starts. The 6-6 wing is the first Tribe player to score 30 points in a game since 2021. A preseason All-CAA First Team pick, Dorsey leads W&M at 12.9 points per game this season, and he has been even better in CAA play, averaging 14.6 per game, which ranks 18th the league.
 
- In its win over Hampton on Thursday, the Tribe scored 94 points which is the most for the program in a CAA game since 2018. W&M leads the CAA and ranks 38th nationally in scoring at 81.7 points per game.
 
- In the win over Hampton, Gabe Dorsey knocked down 7-of-10 from 3-point range. His seven 3-pointers rank eighth on the Tribe's single-game list. On the season, he is third in the CAA and 23rd nationally in 3-pointers made (3.1), while coming in 27th in the country and fourth in the league in 3FG% (43.7). Dorsey has been even better in CAA play, shooting 49% from deep. He is W&M's career leader in 3's per game (3.2), while ranking third in total 3-pointers (251), just 27 shy of second place.
- The Tribe has connected on double-digit 3-pointers in 13 games this season, including nine of the last 11 contests. W&M is 10-3 when it knocks down 10 or more 3-pointers in a game.
 
- After a slow start in close games, the Tribe has won its last four decided by six or fewer points, including a pair of three-point wins vs. N.C. A&T (1/11) and at Hampton (1/16). W&M lost its first four games decided by a six or fewer points, falling at Winthrop, vs. NC Central, at App State, and at ODU by a combined 11 points.
 
- Over the last three games, senior Matteus Case has been a force offensively, averaging 12.7 points per game and 2.7 assists, while shooting 57.1% (12-of-21). He scored 18 points (on Jan. 16) and 12 points (on Jan. 23) in two wins over Hampton. In CAA play, Case is averaging nearly 10 points per game (9.9).
 
- The Tribe has used a balanced attack this season. In total, 12 different W&M players have scored in double figures in a game, which is the third most in the country. Ten different players are averaging nearly five points per game, and seven have led W&M in scoring in a game this season.
 
- W&M possesses the top offense in the CAA, leading the league in scoring (81.7), field goal % (47.2). effective field goal % (56.7), 3-pointers made (11.3), assists (17.4), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.36), 3-pointers attempted (30.5), and fast-break points (15.1). The Tribe is second in the league in 3-point % (36.9).
 
- Graduate student Keller Boothby is averaging 10.1 points per game, shooting 19-of-37 (51.3%) from 3 over the last eight games. He has scored in double figures in five of those contests, including a season-high 19 vs. Elon. Boothby also hit the game-winning 35-foot buzzer-beater to knock off N.C. A&T on Jan. 11. According to KenPom.com, Boothby ranks 21st nationally in effective FG% (.664).
 
- Freshman Isaiah Mbeng was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Jan. 6 following W&M's road wins at Hofstra and Stony Brook. He tallied a career-high 15 points in the win at Stony Brook. On the year, Mbeng leads the team and ranks third in the CAA in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3), fifth in assists (3.5), and ninth in steals (1.3). In CAA play, he is averaging 4.6 assists, which ranks fourth in the league.
 
- Brian Earl-coached teams are known among the fastest paced in the country. According to KenPom.com, W&M ranks 32nd nationally in adjusted tempo (71.0) and ninth in shortest average possession length (15.1). 
 
- Three-point shooting has been a key piece of Earl's offense, and W&M is one of the top teams in the country from distance this season. W&M ranks fourth nationally in % of field goal attempts coming from 3 (51.5%) and 3-pointers made per game (11.3), ninth in % of scoring from 3-pointers (40.6%), 10th in 3-pointers attempted per game (30.5), and 47th in 3-point % (.369).
 
- Nearly half of W&M's points have come off the bench. The Tribe has scored 43.7% (714-of-1633) of its points off the bench and is averaging 35.7 points per game from its reserves, which ranks sixth nationally. W&M relies on its bench for significant minutes as well and ranks 33rd nationally in % of minutes played off the bench (38.9%) according to KenPom.com.
 
- Prior to its setback on Monday at UNCW, the Tribe started CAA play at 5-0 for just the fourth time in program history. W&M also started 5-0 in 1982-83, 2017-18, and 2019-20 . Overall, the Tribe started 5-0 in conference play for only the eighth time in the program's 109-year history of conference membership.
