TRIBE NOTES

•
The Matchup
After a 15-day hiatus, William & Mary returns to action for not only their first game in 2025, but first game of CAA conference play, hosting Hampton on Friday at 7 p.m. in Kaplan Arena on FloCollege.

• The Opponent
Hampton enters the CAA conference slate at 4-7 with an overtime win over Georgia on 12/1 being their clear-cut top win of the non-conference. Tamisha Augustin is in her first year with the Lady Pirates, taking over the program after being the associate head coach at Florida.

• Last Time Out
W&M hung tough for roughly 25 minutes with No. 8 Maryland, but ultimately the Terps were too much, outscoring the Tribe 54-15 down the stretch to win 107-57 on 12/19. Bella Nascimento's and-one cut the lead to 11 in the middle of the third quarter before the Terps went on their run. Nascimento led the Tribe with 16 while Tika Sallman had a career-high 11.

• So Nice We Did it Twice
W&M has posted back-to-back 12-6 marks in the CAA in its first two years under Erin Dickerson Davis, finishing fourth and fifth in the league respectively. The 12 wins tied for the most conference wins in program history. The only other time W&M posted 12 wins during the conference slate was the 2019-20 season.

• Fond Memories
The Tribe has fond memories of their matchups last year with both of their opening weekend opponents, Hampton and Elon. The Tribe swept both teams going 4-0 against the pair last season. W&M also swept both Hofstra and Delaware last regular season.

• Hitting Their Stride
Both Kayla Rolph and Tika Sallman stepped up their play towards the end of the non-conference slate, with both scoring career-highs over the last two games. Rolph's career day came when she had 21 in the win over SC State (12/8), easily passing her previous high of 15. Sallman a career-best 11 over the No. 8 Terps on an efficient 5-of-8 from the field. Rolph has hit 13 shots from the field in the last four games after making just four in the first seven outings, while Sallman is 11-of-her last-20 from the field and averaging 7.6 ppg the last three games.

• Full House in College Park
Despite No. 8 Maryland getting the better of the Tribe last time out, the game still found its way to be a record setting one for the Tribe. The sellout crowd of 17,950 at XFINITY Center to watch the Terps and W&M made it the highest attended game that the Tribe has ever played.

• Injury Bug
After a year in which injuries were few and far between for the Tribe, the injury bug has caught up with them through 11 games in 2024-25. The Tribe has had four different players miss time with injury this year after Kayla Beckwith's absence against Maryland, making it 13 total games W&M players have missed due to injury. Natalie Fox (7), Alexa Mikeska (3), Rebekah Frisby-Smith (2) and Beckwith (1) are the quartet who make up those absences.

• Starting Strong
The first quarter was no doubt the strong suit of the Tribe in the non-conference slate, outscoring opponents 168-140. The first is the lone quarter that W&M carried a positive scoring margin in the non-conference.

• Getting Off On the Right Foot
The Tribe is eying a win in their conference opener for the second consecutive season and currently is 6-4 in its last 10 CAA openers. The game also doubles as the first of the new calendar year for the Tribe. W&M is 5-5 in their last 10 games kicking off a new calendar year.

• Time for Rest
Following the non-conference finale with the Terps, the Tribe had a little over two weeks off before this Friday's game with Hampton. The 15 days between games matches the same long layoff the Tribe had last year around the holidays, tying for the second-longest break in the mid-season since 1984-85. The only longer hiatus is the 19-day break W&M took in 2021-22. Prior to 1985 it was customary for women's basketball to take a full month off at the semester break.

• Finally Home Again
From Nov. 29 until this Jan. 3 matchup the Tribe did not play a game at home. The 35 straight days without a home game is the fifth longest stretch in DI all year.

• Home Weekend, Home Advantage
The opening week of conference play is also the Tribe's first "home weekend of the season", where they will play at home on both Friday and Sunday. Under Erin Dickerson Davis W&M is 8-4 during those weekends in which they play back-to-back home games. This year's schedule features four "home weekends" for the Tribe compared to just three the last two seasons.
• Ballin' Bella
Preseason All-CAA selection, Bella Nascimento, has lived up to the hype for the Tribe so far this year, pacing the team at just under 13 points per game. Nascimento has led W&M in scoring in seven of the first 11 outings and scored in double figures on nine occasions this season.

• Newfound Height
The Tribe adds six new players to the roster in 2024-25, four freshmen and two transfers. Five of the six newcomers are over 6-feet tall. The average height of the six new players is slightly over 6'1, while the average height of the eight returners is 5'9.

• Coach E Extended
W&M Director of Athletics, Brian Mann, announced in late August that head coach Erin Dickerson Davis had agreed to a contract extension through 2029. Through two seasons Davis became the fastest coach to 20 CAA wins in program history and fastest to 30 career wins in 95 years.

• 60 is the Magic Number
60 points is a key number for W&M. The Tribe is 19-6 under Erin Dickerson Davis when holding teams below 60. While team's have had a mixed bag of success scoring in the 60s vs. W&M, opponents are 31-4 against them when scoring 70+ since 2020-21. Offensively, the Tribe is 33-12 when scoring over 60 and 3-21 when held below 60 under Davis.
