Men's Tennis Faces Tough Competition at Liberty Dual

LYNCHBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis faced some tough competition at the Liberty Dual over the weekend.
 
Over the three-day hidden dual-match event, the Tribe squared off with a trio of teams – No. 4 Virginia, No. 36 Princeton, and No. 56 Liberty – that finished last in the national top 60. The Green and Gold totaled six singles wins and a trio of doubles victories at the event.
 
In doubles action, sophomore Oliver Hague and freshman Gur Trakhtenberg posted a 2-1 record at the top position. The Tribe tandem upended Princeton's Ellis Short and Alan Kam, 6-3, on Friday, before topping Virginia's Ty Switzer and Keegan Rice, 6-4, to wrap up the event on Sunday. Hague and Trakhtenberg are 3-2 on the year.
 
Senior Alexander Karman and sophomore Nikita Bortnichek gave W&M a second win over the top three Princeton teams on Friday. The Tribe tandem topped Matthew Bosancic and Evan Wen, 6-4.
 
In singles, Bortnichek posted the lone win over Princeton, downing Bosancic in three sets,  6-2, 3-6, 10-6, on Friday.
 
The Green and Gold captured three singles wins on Saturday against the host Flames. Freshman Raz Katz and junior Albert Hansen each recorded three-set wins. Katz defeated Chase Robinson, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, while Hansen rallied for a 1-6, 7-6, 6-1 win over Trey Stinchcomb. Karman rounded out the Tribe singles wins on Saturday with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Liberty's Ernst Gouws.
 
On Sunday, Trakhtenberg notched his second win, topping Virginia's Ty Switzer, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Senior Sean Joseph picked up his team-leading third singles win of the fall with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jack Griffin of Virginia.
