BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C.— Camden Goldknopf made a splash in his collegiate debut, leading the William & Mary men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Bryan National Collegiate to open the 2024-25 season.

Goldknopf finished T-8 individually at 3-under par thanks to scores of 70 and 68 in the final two rounds.

The Tribe shot scores of 293-290-288 to finish at 7-over in the 10-team field. UNCG, the hosts of the event, were the winners at 10-under, while UNCG's Kelvin Hernandez was the individual champion at 8-under-par over the 54-holes at Bryan Park's Champions Course.

The tournament ran from Sunday through Tuesday.

Joining the Tribe from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Goldknopf opened his career with a 75 on Sunday, before really kicking it into gear over the final 36 holes.

Goldknopf's 70 in the second round featured four birdies, while the 4-under 68 on Tuesday saw five circles on the card. Even more impressive, the freshman only gave back shots on two holes over the last 36, a double on Monday and a bogey on Tuesday.

Max Johnson, while not making his college debut, made his first appearance with W&M after transferring in from reigning national champion Auburn. The Alabama native posted a strong closing 36 holes, much like Goldknopf. After an opening round 75, Johnson fired back-to-back 1-under 71s to finish T-15 at 1-over.

Preston Burton was the medalist for the Tribe after Sunday's first round, kicking off the season with a 71. The sophomore would wind up T-26 with a 221 total after matching 75s on Monday and Tuesday.

Teammate Logan Hunter finished one shot behind Burton, shooting even-par 72 in the first round before scores of 76-74 over the last two rounds.

Luke Walmet rounded out the W&M starting lineup in T-46 with scores of 75-74-78.

Grady Williams made his collegiate debut as an individual. After an opening round 77, Williams posted 74 and 73 on Monday and Tuesday, finishing in T-36 to wrap up a promising debut.

Davis Adams also played as an individual, finishing with a 239 total.
