Records Dropping
The Tribe have set a pair of program records and is on pace to break two more.
Far surpassing the previous single-season strikeout record of 475, the Tribe have fanned 531 to pass the five-hundred mark for the first time in W&M history.
Nate Knowles' 103 strikeouts lead the team and moved into fifth-place in single-season strikeouts.
In another milestone program record, the team's 334 walks on the year passed the three-hundred mark for the first time, overtaking the 2023 Tribe's count of 299.
Nearing another record set by last year's squad, 114 HBPs in 2023, the Tribe have been hit by 110 pitches this season, averaging over two per game.
Another feat on the mound, the pitching staff currently has 10.13 strikeouts per nine innings. The current program record sits at 8.49 K/9, set in 1998, and almost reached by the 2023 staff's 8.45.
Knowles' National Numbers
Knowles has continued to put together a spectacular junior season, maintaining a top-25 national ranking in four statistics. His 2.22 ERA is the sixth best in the country and currently the 11
th best in W&M history. The current mark is the best by a Tribe starting pitcher since Matt Davenport's 1.73 ERA in 2012, a year in which he was named the CAA Pitcher of the Year.
The righty's 5.67 hits allowed per nine innings is nationally ranked at No. 15, while his 103 strikeouts are No. 20. With 12.70 strikeouts per nine innings, he ranks No. 21 in the country - a mark that currently ranks third-best in program history and the best among pitchers with over 60 innings recorded.
Memorable Moments
W&M put together a 2024 regular season campaign that was impressive in more ways than one. Aside from breaking statistical records, the Tribe saw to multiple historical moments.
On April 9, W&M traveled to Durham, N.C., to take on No. 6 Duke. In an incredible feat, the Tribe held the host team to just a pair of runs, producing four of their own for the highest ranked victory in program history.
At 23 games, the Tribe's 17-6 record was the best in program history, trumping the previous best 16-7 record which had been achieved just five times before and most recently in 2019.
Good Things Come in Threes
Christman, No. 3, had his third three-hit game of the season Saturday at Campbell, driving in three runs for the second time.
In the championship berth-clinching game, the freshman led the team in both hits and RBI. Among his hits was a two-out, bases-clearing double, and he added a run in the contest without striking out once.
The Blues
The Tribe has posted a 4-1 record against teams with "blue" in their name. A pair of wins came against Blue Devils from Central Connecticut State and then-No. 6 Duke – the highest-ranked victory in program history. The remaining three made up the Tribe's first matchup with the Blue Hens, a 2-1 CAA weekend series win, 9-4, 3-5, 6-0.
On This Date
On May 22, 2014, the Tribe faced Delaware in its postseason opener at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C., securing a steep 11-4 victory in a year in which the Tribe would advance to the finals.
The Tribe have played in the CAA Championships on May 22 five times, going 4-1.
Championship History
W&M is making its fifth consecutive CAA tournament appearance and its third in Head Coach
Mike McRae's three years as skipper.
