Knowles Named CAA Pitcher of the Year, Five Garner CAA Postseason Honors

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Five William & Mary baseball players were selected for CAA postseason recognition, including Nate Knowles, the 2024 CAA Pitcher of the Year and All-CAA first team member, the league announced Tuesday.

Reliever Carter Lovasz and outfielders Ben Parker and Joe Delossantos earned Second-Team All-CAA honors while freshman Anthony Greco was named to the All-Rookie team.

With five players represented on the all-conference teams, Head Coach Mike McRae continues his streak, coaching five or more players to postseason recognition in each of his three years at the helm of the program.

Knowles became the first William & Mary baseball player to earn the Pitcher of the Year title since Matt Davenport in 2012, and he marks the eighth First-Team All-CAA honoree in the last four years.

This season, Knowles has put up numbers that not only rival the greatest performances in program history, but also consistently rank among the nation's best arms. His 2.22 ERA through 73.0 innings of work is ranked sixth best in the NCAA, giving up only 18 earned runs. His 103 strikeouts is the fifth-most in a single-season by a W&M pitcher and he is just the fifth in history to reach the century mark.

The righty has authored starts in all three of the Tribe's combined shutouts. Surrendering 46 hits during the regular season, Knowles gave up just eight for extra bases.

As a junior, Lovasz earned his third consecutive conference postseason recognition, following his First-Team All-CAA selection in 2023 and All-Rookie 2022 campaign. With a team-leading six saves this season, Lovasz tied the program record 18 career saves. He boasts a 2.83 ERA through 41.1 innings in 17 appearances, 16 of them in relief. He has fanned 53 while giving up only 34 hits and 13 earned runs.

Delossantos' fifth and final year with the Tribe marks his highest-performing season, achieving career marks for his first All-CAA first team selection. He was named an honorable mention in 2022.

In 53 games, he has amassed 66 hits, 26 of them for extra bases, and unloaded a team-leading 13 home runs. He's climbed to eighth place all-time in the career home runs category with 31, while sitting among the career top 10s with 54 stolen bases (No. 5) and 29 HBP (No. 9). His 59 RBI lead the Tribe by nearly 15 and his .324 average and .578 slugging percentage are second on the team.

Parker is slashing .348/.487/.602 in his first year in Green & Gold, leading the Tribe offense in each statistic. His 70 hits are a team-leading mark, as are his 47 walks and 65 runs. The latter rank in the top 10 in single-season performances tied at No. 2 and in sole possession of No. 8, respectively.

The grad transfer from DIII Whitman College who owns 13 career and single-season records at his previous school, didn't skip a beat, etching his name into the Tribe's history books.

Greco joins impressive company among W&M's recent All-Rookie selections, including teammate Lovasz (2022) and 2023 MLB Draft pick Ben Williamson (2021). In his freshman season, Greco is hitting .266 with 37 hits and leads all rookies with 11 extra base hits, including five home runs.

Signing his name on multiple clutch performances, including a six-RBI, two-home run game at Richmond and a pair of four-hit contests, the freshman made an immediate impact in the Tribe's starting lineup.

The Tribe returns to action at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, in the opening game of the 2024 CAA Championship in Wilmington, N.C.,
