W&M-Towson All-Time Series
Towson holds a 20-8 advantage in the all-time series with W&M. Although the Tribe won the first four contests versus the Tigers, TU has claimed the last 14 matchups.
Last Meeting vs. Towson
Sarah Cipolla etched her name into the W&M record book, but a tremendous effort by the Tribe came up just short in a 13-10 setback to Towson at Martin Family Stadium last season. In addition to equaling her own single-game school record for draw controls (11), Cipolla became the program's career leader with 164 by eclipsing the previous record of 156 set by Ellen Shaffrey (2012-15). After an electric finish to the opening half that saw the Tribe rattle off four goals in a span of just 1:43, W&M trailed by just one goal at the intermission, 8-7. A 3-1 spurt to open the fourth quarter drew the Tribe within just one again, 10-11, but Towson scored the game's final two goals to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Last Time Out
W&M fell to Delaware, 19-9, in its CAA home opener at Martin Family Stadium last Saturday. W&M trailed by just three, 10-7, early in the fourth quarter, but UD closed the game with a 9-2 run to pull away for the conference victory.
Maresa Moyer led the Tribe with three goals – all of which came in the first half – and three draw controls, while
Finley Hoffman (1g, 1a) and
Lauren Rothstein (1g, 1a) added two points apiece.
Overtime Success
With the 12-11 victory at George Washington earlier this season, W&M has won four of its last five overtime games dating back to 2019.
Seizing the Moment
During the last two seasons, W&M has posted a 5-2 record in games decided by just one goal.
Single-Season Top-10 List
After totaling six draw controls in W&M's last outing against Delaware,
Kate Draddy currently ranks tied for seventh on W&M's single-season list for draw controls (52).
Career Record Watch
One of the most successful goalies in school history,
Elise Palmer is ranked seventh in school history in career saves (332). She needs 54 more saves to pass Carlen Sellers for sixth on the all-time list.
Caroline Hertzberg currently ranks 10th all-time at W&M in draw controls (104), while her 51 career caused turnovers is just one shy of moving into the program's all-time top-10 list.
Courtney Vasquenza is also closing in on W&M's top-10 list for caused turnovers with 40.
Up Next
Following Saturday's game versus Towson, W&M will return to action when it hosts No. 15 Stony Brook at Martin Family Stadium next Thursday at 5 p.m.
