WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Two-time defending champion William & Mary travels to Elon to take part in the 2024 CAA Women's Tennis Championship at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, April 25-28. The Tribe, which is the No. 2 seed for the fourth time, has won 28 of the 38 all-time league titles.
The Tribe opens play in the quarterfinals against the winner of No. 7 Campbell and No. 10 Towson on Friday, April 21, at 2 p.m. The semifinals are set for Saturday with the championship to follow on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Admission is free to all matches at the CAA Women's Tennis Championship.
Tribe News and Notes
- The Tribe enters the CAA Championship as the No. 2 seed for the fourth time. W&M has been the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in 22 of the last 26 tournaments. W&M won the league title from the No. 2 position at Elon in 2022.
- W&M wrapped up the regular season on an 11-match win streak. It is the fourth-longest streak in school history and the longest since the program record of 14 in 2003.
- The Tribe is 15-5 on the season, marking the second-straight season it has posted 15 or more wins in a season. W&M has won 15 or more matches in 26 of the last 43 years.
- Over the last three seasons, W&M is 43-20 (.683) under head coach
Jessica Giuggioli. The Tribe is an impressive 22-1 against CAA competition under Giuggioli.
- The Tribe went 6-0 against the CAA this season. W&M posted wins over No. 3 seed Charleston (6-1), No. 5 Elon (5-2), No. 6 UNCW (5-2), No. 7 Campbell (6-1), No. 9 Hofstra (7-0) and No. 10 Towson (7-0).
- The Tribe will face either Campbell or Towson in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Camels are in their first season in the CAA, while it would mark the fifth time the Tribe has faced the Tigers in the CAA Tournament.

Hedda Gurholt leads the Tribe with a 25-5 record in singles action. Her 83.3% singles winning % ranks sixth on the Tribe's single-season list. For her career, Gurholt has won 75% of her matches (69-23), which ranks fifth in W&M history.
- Gurholt is 27-6 all-time at the No. 1 singles position and 45-13 (.776) overall in dual-match play. For her career, she is 23-3 all-time against CAA opponents (.885).

Yu Chen ranks second on the team at 19-9 in singles on the year and is 13-5 in dual-match play at the top two positions. Junior

Mila Mejic has been on a tear of late, winning 10-straight matches at the No. 3 singles position. On the year, she is 16-9 overall and 11-5 at No. 3.
- The Tribe has won the doubles point in 17 of its 20 matches this season, including each of the last 11. As a team, W&M is 36-13 (.735) in dual-match doubles play.
- Davis leads the Tribe with a 22-5 doubles mark. Her 81.4 winning % in doubles ranks at the fourth-best mark for a freshman in school history.

Dominating the CAA
W&M has a long history of dominating CAA competition, and more importantly the CAA Championship. The Tribe has won 28 of the CAA's 38 all-time women's tennis championships and finished as the runner-up on seven other occasions.
Since the league adopted its current, head-to-head team format for the CAA Championship in 1995, the Green and Gold is 69-9 (.885) at the event. Overall since the first season of CAA tennis, the Tribe is 168-23 (.880) all-time versus league opponents. In matches with current CAA teams, W&M owns a 65-5 (.929) all-time record, including 21-straight wins over league foes.
