W&M News and Notes

- W&M and Delaware meet for the second time in the last 10 days. The Blue Hens are the first CAA opponent  (of five) that W&M has played twice this season.

- Sophomore Chase Lowe has tallied double-doubles in each of the last two games. During that stretch, he is averaging 19 points and 13.5 rebounds. He pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds at Monmouth on Thursday. Lowe is one of 35 players nationally, as of Feb. 8, to average 13 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Lowe has been even better in CAA play, averaging 14.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Overall, he is one of just four players in the CAA to rank among the top 20 in scoring, rebounding and assists.

- Sophomore Trey Moss scored 20 points in the Tribe's game on Thursday night at Monmouth. It was his team-leading fifth 20-point game this season. He knocked down a career-high tying four 3-pointers against the Hawks. Moss has scored in double figures in 18 of the Tribe's 24 games and ranks 15th in the CAA at 13.1 points per game. Earlier this season, he had a career-high 22 points against Drexel on Jan. 6.

- The Tribe pulled down 19 offensive rebounds, including 15 in the second half, at Monmouth on Thursday night, leading to 17 second chance points. The 19 offensive rebounds are the most in a CAA game this season and the most for the Tribe since it had 25 vs. Goucher in 2019. The last time W&M had more offensive rebounds in a Division I game came in the 2010 regular-season finale when it had 21 vs. Towson.

- With his three treys at Monmouth, Gabe Dorsey became just the fifth Tribe player in school history with 80 3-pointers in a season. He moved into seventh place on the Tribe's single-season 3-pointers made list. His 3-point total also ranks fifth nationally this season. His 156 3-pointers over the last two years rank 12th on the Tribe's career list.

- In five of the last eight games, the Tribe has connected on double-digit 3-pointers. In total, the Tribe has 10 games of 10 or more 3-pointers this season. The Green and Gold ranks 23rd nationally in 3-pointers attempted (27.3) and 45th in 3-pointers made per game (9.0). In total, 47.5% of the Tribe's field goal attempts come from 3-point range and 37.5% of its scoring comes on 3-point field goals. Those numbers rank 13th and 27th nationally, according to KenPom.com.

- Freshman Tai Hamilton has provided the Tribe with a presence in the paint in CAA play. He ranks 15th in the CAA in blocked shots and has been even better in league games, averaging 1.1 per game, which ranks 10th. Over the last six games, he is averaging nearly five rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.

- Lowe is one of the best in the country at getting to the free throw line. According to KenPom.com, he is 11th nationally in free throw rate (81.1) and 24th in the country in drawing fouls at 6.9 per 40 minutes. Lowe has made 106 free throws on the season, which ranks fourth in the CAA and 47th nationally.

- Junior Caleb Dorsey ranks 10th in the CAA with four double-doubles on the year. He owns two in CAA play, finishing with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds at Hampton (Jan. 11) and adding 14 points and 12 rebounds vs. Stony Brook (Jan. 13). The junior forward ranks 16th in the CAA in rebounding (6.0).

- Gabe Dorsey continues to be one of the top shooters in the country. After ranking fourth in the country in 3-point % last season, he is currently 10th in 3-pointers per game (3.3), as of Feb. 8. Dorsey is shooting 38.6%  from distance this season, which ranks third in the CAA and 54th nationally.

- 2020 graduate Nathan Knight, who was the National Mid-Major Player of the Year in 2020, signed an NBA 2-way deal with the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics prior to the start of the season and is currently with the Motor City Cruise in the NBA G-League. He has played three years in the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks. Knight is the third W&M player, joining Marcus Thornton (Cleveland Cavaliers 10-day contract in 2018) and Daniel Dixon (Boston Celtics preseason Exhibit 10 deal in 2017) to sign an NBA deal since 2017.

- Along with Knight in the NBA G-League, seven other former Tribe standouts are playing professionally in overseas - Anders Nelson (Starwings in Switzerland), Andy Van Vliet (Trefl Sopot in Poland), Justin Pierce (Veertien Mie in Japan), David Cohn (VfL SparkassenStars Bochum in Germany), Omar Prewitt (Tofas Bursa in Turkey), Marcus Thornton (Lavrio in Greece), and Terry Tarpey (AS Monaco in France).

- A trio of former W&M players are currently on coaching staffs in the NBA and NBA G-League. Jim Moran '01 is the head coach of the Rip City Remix, which is the G-League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. Sean Sheldon '16 is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz. Daniel Dixon '17 is an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Blue, the NBA G-League program of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
