Lax Heads to VCU on Wednesday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team will return to action when it plays at VCU on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

A Look at the Tribe
W&M is off to a 2-2 start this season and is coming off a 12-11 overtime victory at George Washington on Saturday. Kate Draddy currently leads the team with 10 points (5g, 5a), while she has also totaled a team-high 17 draw controls – 13 of which have come during the last two games. Finley Hoffman has also come up big with a team-high six goals while Justyce Barber has recorded five assists. Goalie Elise Palmer has posted a .474 save percentage and a goals against average of 10.8.  
 
Scouting VCU
VCU is looking for its first win this season and enters Wednesday's contest with a 0-4 record. Ashley Karn leads the Rams with eight goals, while Mia George (5g, 2a) and Kelsey McDonnell (4g, 2a) have also come up big offensively. McDonnell and Kiley Kozak have totaled 13 and 10 draw controls, respectively. Goalie Ahnika Eberl is allowing 12.2 goals per game and owns a .380 save percentage.

W&M-VCU All-Time Series
Wednesday's game will mark just the fourth meeting between W&M and VCU, as the Tribe won the first two matchups in 2018 and 2019 before falling last season. The Tribe earned a 15-5 victory in Williamsburg in 2018, while it posted a 17-13 triumph at VCU in 2019. VCU won, 18-8, last spring.
 
Last Meeting vs. VCU
W&M had its two-game winning streak snapped with an 18-8 setback to VCU at Martin Family Stadium on March 1, 2023. Sarah Cipolla led the Tribe with three goals, while Justyce Barber tallied a pair of scores. Cipolla added six draw controls, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers, while Caroline Hertzberg also posted six draw controls and two caused turnovers to go with three ground balls. Kate Draddy added a team-high five ground balls with a caused turnover.

Vs. the A-10
Wednesday's game will mark W&M's fourth Atlantic 10 opponent this season, as it has also squared off against George Mason, Richmond and George Washington.
 
Last Time Out
W&M earned a thrilling 12-11 overtime victory at George Washington on Saturday afternoon. After Kate Draddy tied the game at 11-11 with 6:08 remaining in regulation, Ellie Shea scored the game-winner 3:45 into the overtime period. The closely contested matchup featured 10 ties and neither team led by more than two at any point. Shea (2g, 1a) and Paige Gilbert (2g, 1a) led the Tribe with three points apiece, while Finley Hoffman also found the back of the cage twice. Jaylin Locke led the defensive effort with a career-high three caused turnovers to go with three ground balls.
 
Balanced Attack
W&M has utilized a balanced attack this season as at least seven different goal scorers in every game.  
 
Overtime Success
With the 12-11 victory at George Washington, W&M has won four of its last five overtime games dating back to 2019.

During the last two seasons, W&M has posted a 5-1 record in games decided by just one goal.

Record Watch
One of the most successful goalies in school history, Elise Palmer is ranked seventh in school history in career saves (331). She needs 55 more saves to pass Carlen Sellers for sixth on the all-time list.
 
Caroline Hertzberg currently ranks 10th all-time at W&M in draw controls (104), while her 51 career caused turnovers is just one shy of moving into the program's all-time top-10 list.
 
Courtney Vasquenza is also closing in on W&M's top-10 list for caused turnovers with 38.
