CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – William & Mary cross country notched regionally-ranked wins at the Panorama Farms Invitational on Saturday morning.
The women placed three runners among the top 25 to finish third in a 14-team field, topping three regionally-ranked foes in the process. The Tribe, which posted 103 points, downed two higher-ranked Southeast Region opponents in No. 10 Duke (8th at 220) and No. 14 High Point (4th at 115) as well as Mid-Atlantic Region No. 15 George Washington (6th at 209). No. 20-ranked Virginia (17) took the team title, while Virginia Tech (70), ranked No. 9 in the Southeast Region, was second.
The men took ninth in an 18-team field, including coming in one spot ahead of George Washington, who is ranked No. 11 in the Mid-Atlantic Region. No. 6-ranked Wake Forest won the event followed by No. 21 Virginia in second.
Senior
Kyra Holland and junior
Sofia Istnick were the top two Tribe finishers and ran together throughout the race. Holland led the way for the second-straight meet, crossing the line in 14th place at 21:03.9 less than five seconds ahead of Istnick in 16th.
Junior
Catherine Garrison gave W&M three runners among the top 25 as she finished 22nd overall. Sitting 37th at the 2K mark, Garrison closed strong improving her spot at the 3K, 5K, and 6K marks, posting a time of 21:25.2.
Freshman
Molly Weithman was close behind Garrison in 26th place at 21:31.4
Junior
Arianna DeBoer rounded out the Tribe scoring runners, finishing 32nd in 21:41.6. She provided W&M with a big lift in finishing ahead of regionally-ranked High Point as DeBoer topped the fifth-place Panther runner by 21 spots, a key margin as W&M finished 12 ahead in the team standings.
Freshmen
Maddie Gypson and
Abby Lane both earned top-50 performances at the event. Gypson was 37th at 21:51.7, while Lane came in 47th at 22:03.7.
On the men's side, sophomore
Hayes Trapp and senior
Nate Jennings topped the team with top-60 efforts. Trapp was 53rd in a time of 24:23.2, while Jennings was three spots back less than two seconds behind.
Redshirt freshman
Carson Rackley was 69th (24:41.2) followed by sophomore
Brendan DiStefano (24:45.2) and junior
Luke Ellwood (24:55.5) in 76th and 83rd, respectively, to round out the Tribe's scoring group.
