WESTFIELD, N.J.— The William & Mary men's golf team held strong for 54 holes at the Georgetown Intercollegiate to earn their third top-five finish in the first four events of the fall. The event was played Monday and Tuesday at Echo Lake Country Club and saw the Tribe finish fourth out of 12 teams.
W&M finished with a 54-hole total of 888 thanks to scores of 293-295-300. Princeton earned the team title by eight shots with an 859 total, while William Huang, also of Princeton, won individual honors at 8-under.
Camden Goldknopf continued his stellar debut season for the Tribe earning a T-10 finish. The freshman posted scores of 73-73-74 to come in at 7-over for the event. Goldknopf made hay on the front side of Echo Lake, playing it to the tune of 2-under over the three rounds. He finished with a total of 11 birdies for the event.
Preston Burton earned a top-20 finish coming in at T-19 with a 9-over total of 222. The Tribe sophomore's best score came in Monday's second round, posting 15 pars, two bogeys and a birdie on his way to a 1-over 72. Burton fired scores of 74 and 76 in the first and third rounds respectively.
Max Johnson matched Burton for the best W&M score of the tournament with his 72 coming in Monday's opening round. The graduate student used three birdies on Echo Lake's inward nine for a 2-under 34 to aid his first-round efforts. Johnson finished the event at 10-over in a tie for 22
nd after rounds of 74-77 to close.
Freshman
Grady Williams got better every round for the Tribe on his way to a T-29 finish. After opening with scores of 77-76 on Monday, Williams posted the best final round score for W&M at 2-over 73 including an even-par 35 on the front nine.
Logan Hunter rounded out the W&M lineup in T-42 with scores of 74-80-77.
