FARMINGTON, Pa.— Camden Goldknopf posted the best round of any William & Mary player in Tuesday's final round, shooting a 1-under 71, as the Tribe men's golf team finished ninth at the WVU Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational.
The 54-hole event was played at Nemacolin Resort's Mystic Rock Golf Club and hosted by West Virginia.
W&M posted team scores of 305-307-297 for a 45-over total in the 14-team field. The host Mountaineers won the team title at 2-over.
After back-to-back scores of 80 on Monday, Goldknopf returned to the form he had shown in his first two collegiate events on Tuesday. The freshman carved up the front nine of the challenging Pete Dye track, shooting a 3-under 33 with four birdies. Goldknopf went on to post 38 on the back to finish in red figures. He finished with a total of 231 and in a tie for 48
th.
The top scorer for W&M was
Logan Hunter who finished T-25. Hunter turned in a trio of 75s over the three rounds for a 9-over total of 225. His final round Tuesday featured an eagle on the par-5 16
th hole, his second eagle in the last two events after making a hole-in-one last weekend at Navy.
Graduate transfer
Max Johnson got better every round for W&M with scores of 77-75-74 and a T-31 finish. The Alabama native posted a clean card on the front-nine in the final round with eight pars and a birdie-2 on the par-3 eighth. He posted a 39 on back to finish at 74.
Grady Williams and
Preston Burton rounded out the lineup for the Tribe. The freshman and sophomore posted totals of 232 (75-78-79) and 234 (78-79-77) to finish 53
rd and 56
th respectively.

The Tribe will take a week off before returning on Oct. 14 for a 54-hole event hosted by Georgetown in Westfield, N.J.
