- W&M and Hampton meet for the 27th time in the last 29 seasons with the Tribe holding a 16-10 advantage. The Tribe has won five of the last seven meetings, including two of the last three on the road. The Pirates joined the CAA last season and the teams split the season series with each winning on its home court.
- Sophomore
Trey Moss scored a career-high 22 points in the Tribe's game against Drexel on Saturday. He was 10-of-18 from the floor and 2-of-5 from 3-point range. It was his fourth 20-point game of the season, the most among Tribe players. He has scored in double figures on 12 of the Tribe's 15 games and ranks 11th in the CAA at 14.1 points per game.
- The Tribe committed just four turnovers against Drexel on Jan. 6. The total ranked third in school history in terms of fewest turnovers in a game and the fewest since the Tribe had three at UNCW in 2012. On the year, W&M ranks 78th nationally in fewest turnovers per game at 11.1.
- W&M ranks 29th nationally in 3-pointers attempted (27.1) and 46th in 3-pointers made per game (9.2). In total, 47.4% of the Tribe's field goal attempts come from 3-point range and 36.5% of its scoring comes on 3-point field goals. Those numbers rank 13th and 40th nationally, according to KenPom.com.
- The Tribe has used the free throw line to its advantage this season. W&M ranks second in the CAA in free throws made per game (15.5) and sixth in FT% (72.5). The Tribe is 85th in free throws made per contest. According to KenPom.com, the Green and Gold ranks 77th in FT rate (37.3). W&M owns three of the top free throw shooters in the league.
Gabe Dorsey leads the league at 93.5%, which is also 10th nationally.
Trey Moss (75.9%) and
Chase Lowe (70.8%) rank 11th and 12th, respectively.
- Sophomore
Chase Lowe recorded his second double-double of the season in the Tribe's CAA-opening win over Elon with 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Lowe has been a stat stuffer in 2023-24 and is one of five players in the CAA to rank in the top 25 in scoring, rebounding, and assists. He ranks 17th in the CAA in rebounding (5.8), 21st in assists (2.5), and 23rd in scoring (11.7).
- Lowe is one of the best in the country at getting to the free throw line. According to KenPom.com, he is fifth nationally in free throw rate (89.1) and 22nd in the country in drawing fouls at seven per 40 minutes. Lowe has made 63 free throws on the season, which ranks second in the CAA and 80th nationally.
- Junior
Gabe Dorsey continues to be one of the top shooters in the country. After ranking fourth in the country in 3-point % last season, he is currently 10th nationally in total 3's made (51) and 3-pointers per game (3.4), as of Jan. 9. Dorsey is shooting 41.8% from distance this season, which ranks second in the CAA and 31st nationally. He also leads the CAA in true shooting % (66.7).
- As the sophomore
Charlie Williams goes, so goes the Tribe. In W&M's six wins, the 6-10 forward is averaging 12.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. In the CAA-opening win over Elon on Jan. 4, Williams tallied 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds. Over the last seven games, he is averaging 12.6 points per game, including back-to-back 20-point efforts at Richmond (21) and at home vs. Old Dominion (23). He knocked down five 3-pointers in both contests.
- After a slow start to the 2023-24 season, junior
Caleb Dorsey started to come into his own. Over the last seven games, he is averaging 11.6 points and seven rebounds per contest. Included in that stretch, he posted double-doubles at Richmond (13 points and 10 rebounds) and against VUL (career-highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds). On the year, he leads the team and ranks 10th in the CAA in rebounding (6.1).
- 2020 graduate Nathan Knight, who was the National Mid-Major Player of the Year in 2020, signed an NBA 2-way deal with the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics prior to the start of the season and is currently with the Motor City Cruise in the NBA G-League. He has played three years in the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks. Knight is the third W&M player, joining Marcus Thornton (Cleveland Cavaliers 10-day contract in 2018) and Daniel Dixon (Boston Celtics preseason Exhibit 10 deal in 2017) to sign an NBA deal since 2017.
- Along with Knight in the NBA G-League, seven other former Tribe standouts are playing professionally in overseas -
Anders Nelson (Starwings in Switzerland), Andy Van Vliet (Trefl Sopot in Poland), Justin Pierce (Veertien Mie in Japan), David Cohn (VfL SparkassenStars Bochum in Germany), Omar Prewitt (Tofas Bursa in Turkey), Marcus Thornton (Lavrio in Greece), and Terry Tarpey (AS Monaco in France).
- A trio of former W&M players are currently on coaching staffs in the NBA and NBA G-League. Jim Moran '01 is the head coach of the Rip City Remix, which is the G-League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. Sean Sheldon '16 is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz. Daniel Dixon '17 is an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Blue, the NBA G-League program of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
