Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The fourth-ranked William & Mary football team opened its season and conference slate with a 34-24 victory at Campbell on Thursday evening.
Although the contest was tied at 14-14 late in the second quarter, W&M utilized success on both sides of the ball to pull ahead 34-17 late in the fourth quarter en route to securing the lopsided CAA win.
In addition to forcing a pair of pivotal turnovers in the first half, W&M's defense held Campbell to just 69 yards after halftime.
Offensively, the Tribe piled up 270 rushing yards with a pair of rushing touchdowns, while it also found the end zone twice through the air. The offensive line did not allow a sack.
Tribe Standouts
Running back
Bronson Yoder rushed for a game-high 124 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns.
Quarterback
Darius Wilson also came up big, completing 17-of-27 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 57 yards on six carries.
In addition to logging 49 rushing yards, running back
Martin Lucas recorded four catches for 46 yards with a touchdown.
Defensive end
Nate Lynn recorded a pair of sacks to lead the defense, while linebacker
John Pius posted six stops and a TFL.
Safety
Marcus Barnes totaled a team-high 11 tackles.
Inside the Numbers
W&M outgained Campbell, 452-310, and dominated the ground game, 270-84.
The Tribe scored on all four trips into the red zone, which included three touchdowns.
W&M's defense limited Campbell to just 2-of-8 on third down.
The Opposition
Campbell quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams completed 22-of-26 passes for 226 yards with a touchdown, while running back Lamagea McDowell rushed for a team-high 54 yards with two touchdowns.
CJ Tillman led the Camels with a game-high 19 tackles.
