WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After earning one of the most remarkable comeback victories in the program's 133-year history and catapulting into the national rankings, the No. 17/19 William & Mary football team will return to action when it hosts Delaware State for its home opener at Zable Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m.
In addition to being the
Go Green Game in which fans are encouraged to wear green,
W&M will also honor legendary former Tribe head coach Lou Holtz. The first 1,000 students in attendance will receive a free Lou Holtz t-shirt.

Clear Bag Policy and Metal Detectors at Zable Stadium in 2026
Furthering its commitment to a first class and secure environment at home athletic events, William & Mary will implement the use of walk-through metal detectors at the entrances to athletic venues (both ticketed and non-ticketed events). This enhanced security method mirrors standard practice at most major professional and intercollegiate athletic events throughout the country and compliments the
Clear Bag Policy already in place. Fans will proceed through metal detectors prior to having their tickets scanned or entering a venue for non-tickets events. Entrants will not need to remove items such as belts, cell phones, coins, jackets, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes or other small objects. If additional screening is necessary, security staff will ask the individual to proceed to a secondary screening area, where they will be asked to divest themselves of certain items and pass through again until clear.
Cashless Concessions for 2026-27
W&M, in partnership with W&M Dining and Aramark, has implemented cashless concessions at all home athletic competitions for the 2026-27 academic year in an effort to improve speed of service and the overall fan experience. The transition to fully cashless transactions at concession stands is designed to reduce wait times and streamline the purchasing process for fans. The move follows a growing trend among collegiate and professional stadiums and sporting venues across the country and reflects support expressed in a recent survey of William & Mary fans. All concession stands at W&M Athletics venues will accept major credit cards, including Discover, Mastercard and Visa, as well as mobile payment options including Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. Cash will no longer be accepted at concession stands.
Ranked No. 17/19 in this week's national polls, W&M will look to build upon the momentum generated in its season-opening win and Patriot League debut last week at Villanova. Kicker
Max Lipinski punctuated the triumph with a 45-yard game-winning field goal as time expired en route to being selected as the
Stats Perform FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week. Safety
Cade Ellis also came up big with two interceptions in his collegiate debut and was honored as the
Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week. Quarterback
Winston Watkins, who made his W&M debut and first career start, helped lead W&M's offensive attack and threw for 254 yards, rushed for a team-high 72 yards and accounted for three touchdowns (two passing / one rushing).
Delaware State opened its season with an impressive 41-34 win against Stony Brook last week. The Hornets piled up 518 yards of total offense with a balanced attack (259 rushing yds / 259 passing yds). QB Ui Ale threw for 259 yds with a score, while Jaylin Terzado totaled six catches for 149 yards with a touchdown. Four different DSU players found the end zone on the ground.
Saturday's game will be the first meeting between W&M and Delaware State.
