Tribe Visits VMI to Wrap Up Non Conference Slate

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - Fresh off a 3-1 week, William & Mary heads to Lexington Tuesday for the team's final midweek game of the regular season. The Tribe will visit VMI for a 5:00 p.m. start on ESPN+.

The meeting will be the 20th all time between the two programs, but the first since the 2017 season. The Tribe is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Delaware on Saturday to earn the team's fifth CAA series win in six tries. The Green and Gold also picked up a Tuesday afternoon win over George Washington last week. VMI was 2-2 on the week with a win over Norfolk State and one victory over Samford in the last seven days.

No one is hotter at the plate than Nate Goranson who is working on a six-game hitting streak and has been doing damage at the plate. Goranson knocked in nine runs over the weekend and all five of his hits in the weekend series went for extra bases. The junior roped a pair of doubles, knocked in one, and scored on Friday. In Saturday's first game, Goranson knocked in five and hit a three-run homer, while he scored the tying run and hit a home run and a double in the Tribe's series-clinching win in the second game of the doubleheader.

Freshman Corey Adams singled to walk off Delaware Saturday afternoon. It was the infielder's second walk off hit to clinch a CAA series this season. Adams has been clutch all season as his average is 30 points higher when runners are on base. The Virginia native is hitting .400 with the bases loaded, and .359 with two outs. With a runner on third and less than two outs, Adams has knocked in his man 71% of the time. He has come through 12 times in 41 chances with runners in scoring position.

Ben Williamson is coming off another tremendous week in which the senior notched seven hits with a .500 average. Williamson mashed one homer and a pair of doubles while knocking in four runs and scoring six times. Always disciplined, Williamson took six free passes over the weekend, the slugger has reached base via the free pass 44 times while striking out just 17 times this season.

The Tribe's pitching staff has been one of the stingiest in the CAA this season. William & Mary has struck out 391 men on the year, tops in the league. The Green and Gold also paces the league in innings pitched, batting average against, and extra base hits allowed, while ranking second in the league in ERA.
