Box Score STONY BROOK, NY. - A pair of big hits from veteran bats proved to be the difference as William & Mary knocked off Stony Brook 8-7 Friday afternoon in New York for the Tribe's seventh straight win.
Nate Goranson's pinch hit three-RBI double in the sixth gave the Green and Gold the lead and
Ben Williamson's three-run homer in the seventh iced the game for the Tribe.
Williamson was 3-5 in his return to the lineup with a pair of runs scored and four runs driven in.
Lucas Carmichael also scored twice.
Nate Knowles got the no-decision tossing three innings, allowing one earned run and striking out three.
Zach Tsakounis earned win number three on the season, striking out three and allowing one earned over a trio of innings.
Carter Lovasz took home his fourth save.
William & Mary bounced out in front on a
Max Winters RBI single that knocked in
Lucas Carmichael in the first to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Seawolves tied the game up on a solo homer in the second. Stony Brook led off the third with a pair of singles and pushed across an unearned run to make it 2-1 before Knowles retired the next three men to limit the damage.
After a pair of scoreless frames from Tsakounis, Williamson led off the Tribe's sixth inning with his second hit of the day.
Tank Yaghoubi and
Corey Adams followed with walks to load the bases. Coach McRae called
Nate Goranson off the bench and the junior delivered, shooting the first pitch to deep right center to clear the bases and make it 4-2 William & Mary.
Stony Brook answered with another solo homer in the sixth before the Tribe broke the game open in the seventh. A pair of free passes set men on first and second before Williamson rocketed a 3-1 pitch over the wall in left for his seventh homer of the year to make it a four-run game.
Williamson would add on another RBI on a fielder's choice in the eighth. Stony Brook made it interesting plating four runs on three hits in the bottom of the ninth, but Lovasz was able to get a pair of strikeouts to end the ball game.
