WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- The Tribe kicked off a four-game road trip in style on Tuesday with a 13-3 win at Maryland and will look to extend its six-game winning streak as the Green and Gold head to New York for three games with Stony Brook beginning Friday afternoon. All three games are available to stream on flobaseball.tv. The three-game set will mark the first action in the history of the two programs.
The Tribe's pitching has been hot during the six-game winning streak, as it has all season. In the past six games the Tribe has struck out nearly nine batters per game while surrendering just 2.5 walks per contest. William & Mary ranks in the top-15 nationally in ERA, WHIP, and hits allowed per nine innings, while leading the CAA in strikeouts and batting average against.
A trio of Tribe relievers have been phenomenal of late to hold opposing hitters at bay.
Rojo Prarie has allowed just one earned run over 23.1 innings pitched this season. He picked up his first win last Sunday tossing 3.0 scoreless against St. John's and earned his team-leading fourth save Tuesday at Maryland. Over his last 13.0 innings of work, Prarie has not allowed an earned run and has struck out 13 men.
Carter Lovasz has been electric over his last five games. The sophomore has thrown 16.2 innings and allowed just nine base runners (five hits, four walks) vs. 16 strikeouts. Opponents have scored just one run off Lovasz in those five outings. The righty leads the team with a 0.90 WHIP.
Over his past four outings,
Tom Mayer has allowed just one run over 12.2 innings of work. During that span, Mayer has surrendered just six hits and walked two men while striking out eight. Opponents are hitting just .196 against the senior.
Friday starter
Nate Knowles leads the CAA in opposing batting average, earned runs, hits allowed, and ERA in which he is also top-30 nationally. In his nine starts, Knowles has allowed just four earned runs and struck out 31 men over 29.0 innings. Knowles allowed one hit and struck out eight in 7.0 scoreless innings last week.
Offensively, William & Mary has seen a power surge, hitting eight home runs in the past four games. Through the first 26 games of the season, William & Mary had only gone yard 13 times. Over its past nine games, the Tribe's offense is averaging 10.4 hits and nine runs per game.
Joe Delossantos plated himself with his fifth homer of the season on Tuesday night, his 39th run scored on the year. Delossantos leads the CAA and ranks tied for fifth nationally with 39 runs scored. The three-hole hitter is second in the league with 44 hits and 17 stolen bases, while ranking fifth with 29 runs batted in.
