WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - William & Mary (18-11) will bring a five game winning streak to College Park as the Tribe will face Maryland Tuesday evening. The 6:30 p.m. first pitch will be broadcast live on Big10 Network Plus.
The Tribe's five game winning streak featured a 4-0 slate last week with a win over No. 15 Campbell and a sweep of St. John's who entered the series 16-7 on the year. Maryland is coming off a 3-1 week that included a conference series win over Iowa.
The William & Mary bats saw a power surge over the weekend as the 2023 Tribe saw a 50% increase in home runs over the weekend. Entering the St. John's series with 10 on the year, the Green and Gold mashed five homers in the three game sweep.
Nate Goranson left the yard in Friday's win, and
Ben Williamson and
Joe Delossantos both homered Saturday while
Cole Ragone had a pair of two-run shots in the 15-6 series clincher.
William & Mary's pitching has been outstanding this season as the Tribe ranks 11th nationally with a 3.32 ERA. The Tribe has allowed three or fewer earned runs over four of its last five games. William & Mary is also 11th in the nation in hits allowed per nine innings, allowing five or fewer hits in three of the last five games. Ranking 15th in the nation in WHIP the Tribe has issued two or fewer walks in four of the last five outings.
Senior
Tom Mayer has a 1.02 WHIP and opponents are hitting just .217 against the righty in 25.1 innings of work this season. Over his last three outings, Mayer has thrown 9.2 innings allowing one run and walked just one man while striking out six.
Rojo Prarie has allowed just one earned over 20.1 all season. Prarie leads the team with three saves, but picked up his first win of the year tossing 3.0 clean frames against St. John's on Friday. Prarie has struck out eight and allowed just three walks in his last four outings.
Few in the Tribe's lineup have been hotter than
Lucas Carmichael. The lead off man had hit safely in nine straight games prior to Sunday's outing and had multiple hits in five of those games. Carmichael has been a doubles machine with seven two-baggers in the Tribe's last eight games. Lucas ranks fifth in the nation with 13 doubles on the season and has scored 10 runs in the last eight games.
Goranson had a solid week going 3-9 with a homer over the weekend. The catcher drove in five runs and scored twice.
Corey Adams scored twice and drove in four over the weekend, while
Tank Yaghoubi hit .500 (4-8) and scored twice in three games last week.
