WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - Tribe baseball is back in action this weekend with a pivotal three-game set with CAA foe Delaware. Both teams enter the weekend tied for fifth in the league with a 9-9 conference record.
The Tribe is coming off a midweek triumph over George Washington, while the Blue Hens enter the weekend series as losers of five straight. William & Mary took all three games between the two clubs in 2022.
Cole Ragone had a pair of homers and knocked in eight over the sweep, while
Ben Williamson and
Joe Delossantos also homered against the Blue Hens last season.
Williamson was honored earlier in the week, being named to the Bobby Bagan Collegiate Slugger Watch List. The third baseman has 109 total bags on the season, and 22 of his 63 hits have gone for extra bases. To go with his .408 batting average, Williamson has already set career highs in hits, runs scored, runs driven in, and homers. The speedy infielder has also been successful in 13 of 14 stolen base attempts.
Rojo Prarie has been unhittable this season and will look to stay that way this weekend as he enters play with a 0.89 ERA for the season. Prarie has allowed just three earned runs over 30.1 innings of work and has recorded four saves. Hitters are averaging a .196 mark against the reliever and he has struck out 31 to just nine walks.
Prarie has not been the only stingy Tribe arm this season. Reliever
Cory Wall has dominated, allowing an opponent batting average of .198 on the season. Wall has struck out 43 men in 33.1 innings pitched and allowed just six total walks. The 7:1 strikeout to walk ratio ranks Wall in the top 15 in the nation. Wall has struck out 17 men over his last 14.1 innings of work.
Over its last three games, the trio of
Nate Knowles,
Zach Tsakounis and
Carter Lovasz has surrendered just six earned runs. Over those three contests, the pitchers have combined to allow just 19 hits and seven walks against 31 total strikeouts. The three arms combined to allow just one earned run over 8.0 innings on Tuesday evening.
