W&M-GW All-Time Series
W&M and GW will meet for just the sixth time, as the Tribe currently owns a 3-2 edge in the all-time series. All five of the previous contests have been close, as neither team has won by a margin of more than four goals.
Last Time vs. George Washington
W&M defeated GW, 19-17, at Martin Family Stadium on March 8, 2020.
Sarah Cipolla set the program's single-game draw controls record (11), while
Belle Martire scored a school-record none goals on just 11 shots. W&M outshot GW, 40-33, and owned a commanding advantage in draw controls, 24-10.
Last Time Out
Sarah Cipolla etched her name into the W&M record book on Saturday afternoon, but a tremendous effort by the Tribe came up just short in a 13-10 setback to Towson at Martin Family Stadium. In addition to equaling her own single-game school record for draw controls (11), Cipolla became the program's career leader with 164 by eclipsing the previous record of 156 set by Ellen Shaffrey (2012-15). After an electric finish to the opening half that saw the Tribe rattle off four goals in a span of just 1:43, W&M trailed by just one goal at the intermission, 8-7. A 3-1 spurt to open the fourth quarter drew the Tribe within just one again, 10-11, but Towson scored the game's final two goals to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Paige Gilbert (3g, 1a) and
Sam Van Gieson (3g) came up big offensively, while goalie
Elise Palmer posted another strong performance with 13 saves and a .500 save percentage.
Record Watch
In addition to becoming W&M's career record holder for draw controls (164),
Sarah Cipolla's 55 draw controls this season ranks fifth in the program's record book. She needs just four more to move into second and 24 more to tie the record (79) set by
Starr Howard in 2019.
With 46 career caused turnovers,
Caroline Donovan and
Caroline Hertzberg need just six more to move into the program's all-time top-10 list. Additionally, with 90 career draw controls Hertzberg needs just five more to move into W&M's all-time top 10.
CAA Weekly Honors
Four Tribe standouts have earned weekly awards from the CAA this season, as
Elise Palmer Defensive Player of the Week, March 20),
Maresa Moyer (Rookie of the Week, March 20), Kate
Draddy Rookie of the Week, Feb. 27) and Justyce (Player of the Week, April 3) have all garnered distinction.
Seizing the Moment
In addition to being 2-0 in overtime games this season, W&M is 3-0 in games decided by just one goal.
