Lax Looks to Extend Winning Streak at Drexel

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team will look to extend its winning streak to four games when it returns to conference play with a contest at Drexel on Saturday at 4 p.m.

A Look at the Tribe
Having won its last three games, W&M enters Saturday's contest with a 5-4 record overall and a 1-0 mark in conference play. Sarah Cipolla leads the Tribe with 14 points (11g, 3a), while Maresa Moyer (10g, 3a) and Sam Van Gieson (10g, 3a) have totaled 13 points apiece. Cipolla has also posted a team-high 39 draw controls and needs just nine more to break the career record of 156 set by Ellen Shaffrey. Defensively, Caroline Donovan and Caroline Hertzberg have totaled a team-high 10 caused turnovers apiece.
 
Scouting Drexel
Drexel enters the weekend with a 5-3 record and dropped its CAA opener at Towson last weekend. Corinne Bednarik leads the Dragons with 32 points (21g, 11a), while Bridget Finley (17g, 6a) and Hayleigh Simpson (19g, 3a) have also provided production offensively. Maura Cissel leads the squad with 37 draw controls, while Peighton Bement has totaled a team-high 16 caused turnovers.

W&M-Drexel All-Time Series 
W&M leads the all-time series against Drexel, 12-9. Five of the last nine games have been decided by three goals or less, while two of the matchups went into overtime.
 
Last Meeting vs. Drexel
W&M fell to Drexel, 21-10, on Senior Day at Martin Family Stadium last season. Although the contest was knotted at 6-6 early in the second quarter, Drexel utilized a 10-0 run to pull ahead. Serena Jacobs led the Tribe with four goals, while Same Van Gieson scored twice. Caroline Hertzberg posted a team-high five draw controls with three ground balls, while Caroline Donovan tallied a pair of caused turnover with a goal.
 
Last Time Out
W&M extended its winning streak to three games with a 14-7 victory at Longwood on Wednesday evening. The Tribe closed the opening stanza with 12 unanswered goals to pull away for the victory. Ainsley Huizenga led W&M with her first career hat trick as she scored on all three of her shot attempts. She also added a team-high three draw controls and an assist.
 
Record Watch
With 148 career draw controls, Sarah Cipolla needs just nine more draw controls to break the W&M career record (156) set by Ellen Shaffrey.  

Additionally, her 39 draw controls this season are just five shy of breaking into the program's single-season top-10 list.
 
Balanced Attack
W&M has utilized a balanced attack offensively in its last three wins, as at least nine different Tribe players have scored in each of the victories.  
 
CAA Weekly Honors
A trio of Tribe standouts have earned weekly awards from the CAA this season, as Elise Palmer (Defensive Player of the Week, March 20), Maresa Moyer (Rookie of the Week, March 20) and Kate Draddy Rookie of the Week, Feb. 27) have all garnered distinction.

Seizing the Moment
W&M is 3-0 in games deciding by three goals or less this season, as it defeated ODU (11-9), Campbell (14-13, 2OT) and Hofstra.
