Lax Looks to Extend Winning Streak at Longwood

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team will look to extend its winning streak to three games when it plays at Longwood on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

A Look at the Tribe
W&M enters Wednesday's contest with a 4-4 record and is coming off an exciting 13-12 victory against Hofstra in its conference opener. Sarah Cipolla leads the Tribe with 12 points (9g, 3a), while Maresa Moyer (9g, 2a), the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week, and Kate Draddy (7g, 4a) have totaled 11 points apiece. Cipolla has also totaled a team-high 39 draw controls and needs just nine more to break the career record of 156 set by Ellen Shaffrey. Defensively, Caroline Donovan has totaled a team-high 10 caused turnovers, while goalie Elise Palmer was honored as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after totaling 29 saves and a .569 save percentage in last week's wins against Columbia and Hofstra.  
 
Scouting Longwood
Longwood enters Wednesday's contest with a 2-4 record and is currently on a four-game losing streak after opening the year with a pair of one-goal wins versus George Mason and Kennesaw State. Emily Cate Smith leads the team with 20 points (8g, 12), while Riley McDonald has totaled 18 points (13g, 5a) and a team-high 16 draw controls.

W&M leads the all-time series against Longwood, 20-2, and has won the last six meetings.  
 
Last Meeting vs. Longwood
W&M earned a 19-10 win against Longwood at Martin Family Stadium last season. Although W&M led by just two, 4-2, after the opening quarter, it scored the first seven goals of the second frame to build a comfortable 11-2 advantage en route to cruising to the lopsided victory. Serena Jacobs led W&M with six points (5g, 1a), while Sarah Cipolla also recorded a hat trick and added a game-high eight draw controls. Caroline Hertzberg posted five caused turnovers, five ground balls and four draw controls.
 
Versus the Big South
W&M owns a 26-4 all-time record versus teams currently in the Big South. W&M controls the all-time series against Longwood (20-2), Campbell (3-0) and Gardner-Webb (2-0), while it is tied with Winthrop (1-1) and lost its only matchup versus Radford (0-1). The Tribe has never played Mercer, Presbyterian, Wofford, High Point or Furman.  
 
Last Time Out
W&M opened its CAA slate with a thrilling 13-12 win against Longwood at Martin Family Stadium. W&M utilized an 8-0 run in the first half to build a seven-goal advantage and maintained a lead during the remainder of the contest. London Simonides equaled a career high with six points (3g, 3a), while Kate Draddy, Sydney Witwer and Maresa Moyer all scored two goals apiece.
 
Record Watch
With 148 career draw controls, Sarah Cipolla needs just nine more draw controls to break the W&M career record (156) set by Ellen Shaffrey.  

Additionally, her 39 draw controls this season are just five shy of breaking into the program's single-season top-10 list.
 
Balanced Attack
W&M has utilized a balanced attack offensively in its last two wins, as 12 players have scored at least once. Ten different players found the back of the cage in the victory at Columbia, while nine different players scored in the win against versus Hofstra.  
 
CAA Weekly Honors
A trio of Tribe standouts have earned weekly awards from the CAA this season, as Elise Palmer (Defensive Player of the Week, March 20), Maresa Moyer (Rookie of the Week, March 20) and Kate Draddy (Rookie of the Week, Feb. 27) have all garnered distinction.

W&M is 3-0 in games deciding by three goals or less this season, as it defeated ODU (11-9), Campbell (14-13, 2OT) and Hofstra.
