Box Score HEMPSTEAD, NY- Zach Tsakounis,
Mike Weidinger, and
Rojo Prarie combined to allow zero earned runs and just six hits while walking just one man in William & Mary's 2-1 win over Hofstra Saturday in Hempstead. The Tribe clinched a series win and improved to 3-2 in CAA play with the victory.
Tsakounis picked up his second win of the season, tossing four scoreless frames in which Hofstra mustered just two hits. Weidinger struck out six over 3.0 innings of middle relief work surrendering just one hit, while the Pride's lone run was unearned coming off Prarie who picked up his third save on the year.
An RBI single from
Ben Williamson in the third, and a huge insurance RBI single from
Tank Yaghoubi provided the offense for the Green and Gold.
Joe Delossantos' double in the third was the team's lone extra base hit.
Allowing zero earned runs, the Tribe's team ERA dropped to below 3.00 on the season. The staff has allowed just eight earned over the first five CAA games and
Rojo Prarie moved into second in the league with his third save.
Williamson put the Tribe on the board in the third, pulling a single through the left side of the infield to score Delossantos. Tsakounis retired his six men, facing the minimum to leave the game with a 1-0 lead.
The Tribe manufactured its second run in the ninth as
Lucas Carmichael singled to lead off the inning and was replaced on the bases by
Noah Zertuche. Zertuche moved to third on a sacrifice and a ground out and scored on Yaghoubi's RBI single up the middle.
Hofstra would get a man aboard on a lead off error in the ninth that would ultimately score, but Prarie would strand the tying run on third to preserve the 2-1 win and give the Tribe a shot at a sweep Sunday afternoon.
