- While UNCW leads the all-time series at 47-33, W&M has won 14 of the last 21 meetings between the teams. Earlier this season, the Tribe downed the Seahawks, 69-67, on CBS Sports Network in Wilmington.
- Saturday's game marks the Tribe's eighth annual Gold Rush Game. In the previous seven Gold Rush Games, the Tribe has averaged 82.1 points per contest in posting a 6-1 record. The Gold Rush Games have also been among the best attended in the CAA, averaging 5,086 fans.
- W&M leads the CAA and ranks 37th nationally in 3-point % (37.3). The Tribe is averaging 7.4 triples made per game. The Tribe's numbers this season are a substantial improvement from the last two seasons, when W&M shot just 30.1% from distance and made 6.4 per game.
- Graduate guard
Anders Nelson, who averaged 24.5 points per game last week, has scored in double figures in each of the last three games and leads the Tribe in scoring at 12 points per contest. Over the last three games, he is shooting 77.8% (21-of-27) from the field and 83.3% (10-of-12) from 3. He scored a season-high 27 points vs. Stony Brook and more impressively was 8-of-8 from the field and 4-of-4 from 3. It marks the most made field goals without a miss for a Tribe player since 2004.
- In short order, sophomore
Gabe Dorsey has established himself as one of the top shooters in the country. He ranks ninth nationally in 3-point % (44.8), 19th in 3's per game (3.1) and 22nd in effective FG% (64.7). He leads the CAA in both 3-point % and triples per game. He has been even better in league play, hitting a CAA-best 3.5 3-pointers per game and shooting a league-leading 47.5%. Dorsey's 74 3-pointers this season rank ninth in Tribe history, while his 3.08 per game is second.
- In its win over Stony Brook on Jan. 26, W&M set a program record shooting 81.3% (13-of-16) from 3-point range. The 3-point % was also the best by a Division I team this season with a minimum of 10 made 3's and the second best nationally over the last six years. The Tribe followed it up with 12 triples and a 57.1 3-point % at Towson (Jan. 28).
- Junior forward
Noah Collier recorded his seventh double-double of the season with career-highs of 22 points and 16 rebounds vs. N.C. A&T on Jan. 21. He ranks second in the CAA and 49th nationally with seven double-doubles.
- Collier's 16 rebounds vs. N.C. A&T are the 11th most for a Tribe player since 1973 and the most since Nathan Knight had 17 vs. UNCW in 2020. He ranks third in the CAA and 55th nationally at 8.5 rebounds per game. He has pulled down 10 or more rebounds in nine games this season.
- Graduate student
Chris Mullins dished out a season-high nine assists compared to zero turnovers vs. North Carolina A&T. It marks just one of 36 performances nationally this season in which a player had nine or more assists and zero turnovers. It is the only such effort for a CAA player in 2022-23. In league play, Mullins is averaging 3.2 assists per game, which ranks 15th in the CAA.
- Freshman
Charlie Williams was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Jan. 16. Williams made a huge impact off the bench in the win at UNCW, scoring a career-high 15 points to go with four rebounds. He scored 12 first-half points with the Tribe's starting front court of Collier and Wight limited to 11 total minutes due to foul trouble. Williams was 11-of-12 at the free throw line vs. UNCW.
- Nelson has been a catalyst for W&M's offense. He ranks second in the CAA in assists (4.5) and third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8). His assists per game number is 84th nationally. Nelson is 19th in the country in assist rate (35.1), according to KenPom.com. Assist rate divides the number of assists by the field goals made by the player's teammates while he is on the court.
- W&M turned the ball over just nine time against a UNCW team that leads the CAA in turnover margin. On the year, the Tribe is averaging just 12.4 turnovers per game in 2022-23, which is a significant improvement from a season ago. The Green and Gold averaged 16.2 turnovers per game in 2021-22, the sixth-worst mark in the country. After not having a single game of 10 or fewer turnovers last season, W&M has nine such games this season.
- Four former Tribe standouts are in the NBA as either a player or a coach. 2020 graduate Nathan Knight, who was the National Mid-Major Player of the Year in 2020, signed a two-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the offseason. He spent last season with the Timberwolves after playing his rookie season with the Atlanta Hawks. Jim Moran '01 is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons, while Sean Sheldon '16 joined the Utah Jazz as an assistant coach this offseason. Daniel Dixon '17 is an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Blue, the NBA G-League program of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Another nine former Tribe players are currently playing professionally in Europe.
