W&M News and Notes

- Thursday's game at Pepperdine will be the Tribe's third against a West Coast Conference team since the league started as the California Basketball Association in 1952. It will be the program's first at a WCC opponent. The Tribe previously played Santa Clara at the Stanford Invitational in 1998 and Portland in the Kauai Classic in 1991.

- The Tribe connected on double-digit 3 pointers in each of its last three games, including 15 in the win at Old Dominion on Dec. 10. The Tribe ranks 15th nationally in 3-pointers attempted (28.9) and 18th in 3-pointers made per game (10.2). On Nov. 11, W&M knocked down 18 3-pointers, which ranks as the third most in program history, at George Washington. It was the most for a CAA program against a DI opponent since 2020 and the third most for a team nationally against a D1 opponent this season, as of Dec. 17.

- Sophomore Charlie Williams has been on a tear of late, scoring in double figures in four of the last five games, including back-to-back 20-point efforts. Following a team-high 21 points at Richmond on Dec. 2, he bettered his career mark with 23 in the win over ODU. He knocked down five 3-pointers in both contests. Over the last five contests, Williams is averaging 14.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and four assists per game, while shooting 55.1% (27-of-49) from the field.

- In each of the last three games, junior Caleb Dorsey bettered his career-high in scoring and posted two double-doubles. After scoring all 17 of his points in the second half to help W&M to a win over ODU, Dorsey tallied a career-high 20 to go with 13 rebounds in the win over VUL on Dec. 10. He notched his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds at Richmond. Over the last three games, he is averaging 16.7 points and nine rebounds per contest, while shooting 52.7% from the field (19-of-36) and 50% (11-of-22) beyond the 3-point arc. On the year, he ranks 10th in the CAA in rebounding (6.3).

- Sophomore Trey Moss has demonstrated his ability to score during his first season with the Tribe. In three of the last seven games, he has scored a career-high 20 points, including W&M's win over Old Dominion on Dec. 6. Moss ranks 12th in the CAA at 14.3 points per game. He previously scored 20 points on the road at Air Force and Norfolk State. Moss just missed a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists vs. VUL on Dec. 10.

- W&M has been hindered by injuries throughout the 2023-24. The Tribe played with just eight healthy players (six scholarship players) in its wins over Old Dominion and VUL. Three starters this season have missed time - Noah Collier (8 games), Sean Houpt (5), and Jack Karasinski (2) – to go with three other scholarship players - Jake Milkereit (11), Matteus Case (8), and Tai Hamilton (3). Combined between Collier, Case, Houpt, and Karasinski, the Tribe is without 38.8 points and 15.9 rebounds per game.

- Junior Gabe Dorsey continues to be one of the top shooters in the country. After ranking fourth in the country in 3-point % last season, he ranks third nationally in total 3-pointers (44) and fourth in 3-pointers per game (4.0), as of Dec. 17. Dorsey is shooting 44.9% (44-of-98) from distance this season, which ranks second in the CAA and 26th nationally. He also ranks 15th nationally in free throw % (93.5) and 29th in true shooting % (68.9).

- The Tribe has been strong on the glass this season, outrebounding nine of its 11 opponents. W&M ranks fourth in the CAA and 91st nationally in rebounding margin (+4.8).

- Sophomore Chase Lowe has made a significant impact in his second season, averaging 11.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. He is one of five players in the CAA to rank in the top 25 in all three categories. Lowe is 23rd in the league in scoring and 15th in rebounding and assists. He tallied a career-high 22 in the win over UMBC. Lowe also ranks fourth in the CAA in player efficiency rating (26.6).

- The Tribe has used the free throw line to its advantage this season. W&M ranks second in the CAA in free throws made per game (16.4) and fourth in free throw % (73.5). The Tribe is 59th nationally in free throws made and 84th in free throw%. W&M owns three of the top free throw shooters in the league. Gabe Dorsey ranks third in the league at 93.5%, which is also 15th nationally. Lowe (74.6%) and Moss (73.5%) rank 17th and 18th, respectively.

- 2020 graduate Nathan Knight, who was the National Mid-Major Player of the Year in 2020, signed an NBA 2-way deal with the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics prior to the start of the season and is currently with the Motor City Cruise in the NBA G-League. He has played 108 games over his three-year NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks. Knight is the third W&M player, joining Marcus Thornton (Cleveland Cavaliers 10-day contract in 2018) and Daniel Dixon (Boston Celtics preseason Exhibit 10 deal in 2017) to sign an NBA deal since 2017.

- A trio of former W&M players are currently on coaching staffs in the NBA and NBA G-League. Jim Moran '01 is the head coach of the Rip City Remix, which is the G-League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. Sean Sheldon '16 is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz. Daniel Dixon '17 is an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Blue, the NBA G-League program of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
