W&M News and Notes
- Richmond is the Tribe's most played rivalry at 202 games with the Spiders holding a slim 103-99 advantage. The teams meet for the second-straight year after the longest gap in a series that dates back to 1912. UR holds a 67-36 lead in games played in Richmond, including a narrow 68-67 win in 2014. On the night, Marcus Thornton scored a then-career-high 37 points, including 8-of-11 from 3.

- The Tribe faces its second Atlantic 10 Conference opponent of the season. It marks the 15th-straight season and 26th year in the last 28 campaigns that W&M has played an A-10 foe. The Tribe faces multiple A-10 teams in the same season for just the fifth time. The program has downed an A-10 opponent three times in the last six seasons. Head coach Dane Fischer has led the Tribe to two of the program's nine wins against the league.

- W&M has been hindered by injuries throughout the 2023-24. Two returning starters from the 2022-23 season – Noah Collier and Matteus Case – have missed five games apiece so far, while graduate guard Sean Houpt, who started the Tribe's first six games, has missed the last two due to injury. Sophomore Chase Lowe, who owns three starts this season, went down in the opening minute at Norfolk State. Combined between Collier, Case and Houpt, the Tribe is without 31.7 points and 11 rebounds per game.

- Junior Gabe Dorsey continues to be one of the top shooters in the country. After ranking fourth in the country in 3-point % last season, he leads the nation in total 3-pointers (34), as of Dec. 1, and ranks second in 3-pointers per game (4.3). Dorsey is shooting 46.6% (34-of-73) from distance this season, which leads the CAA and is 27th nationally.

- Sophomore Chase Lowe has made a significant impact in his second season, averaging 12.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He is one of two players in the CAA to rank in the top 25 in all four categories. Lowe is 20th in the league in scoring, 25th in rebounding, 20th in assists, and 22nd in steals. He tallied a career-high 22 in the win over UMBC. Lowe also ranks second in the CAA in player efficiency rating (30.5).

- The Tribe has used the free throw line to its advantage this season. W&M leads the CAA in free throws made per game (16.5) and ranks third in free throw % (73.7). The Green and Gold owns four of the top free throws shooters in the CAA. Sean Houpt ranks second in the league (93.8), Gabe Drosey is third (92.3), Chase Lowe is 13th (79.5), and Trey Moss (77.8) ranks 16th. Houpt and Dorsey rank 23rd and 35th nationally in FT%.

- The Tribe owns a balanced attack as five players are scoring in double figures. The only time in program history that five Tribe players averaged double-digits was in 2017-18. Junior Gabe Dorsey leads the team at 16.8 points per game, which ranks eighth in the CAA.  Sophomore Trey Moss is averaging 13.9 per contest followed by Noah Collier (13.0), Chase Lowe (12.1), and Sean Houpt (10.7).

- Gabe Dorsey leads the CAA and ranks among the national leaders in effective field goal % and true shooting %. He is 26th in the country with a true shooting % of 71.7 and 52nd nationally in effective field goal % at 66.7. Along with leading the CAA in 3FG%, he is third in FT%, which also ranks 35th nationally. Dorsey has scored in double figures in all eight games, including a career-high 27 points in the Tribe's win over UMBC.

- In its game at George Washington on Nov. 11, the Tribe knocked down 18 3-pointers, which ranks as the third most in program history. It is the most for a CAA program against a DI opponent since 2020 and the second most for a team nationally against a D1 opponent this season, as of Dec. 1. The Tribe ranks 23rd in 3-pointers attempted (28.2) and 50th in 3-pointers made per game (9.3).

- 2020 graduate Nathan Knight, who was the National Mid-Major Player of the Year in 2020, signed an NBA 2-way deal with the Boston Celtics prior to the start of the season. He has played 108 games over his three-year NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks, helping both organizations to the playoffs. Knight is the third W&M player, joining Marcus Thornton (Cleveland Cavaliers 10-day contract in 2018) and Daniel Dixon (Boston Celtics preseason Exhibit 10 deal in 2017) to sign an NBA deal since 2017.

- A trio of former W&M players are currently on coaching staffs in the NBA and NBA G-League. Jim Moran '01 is the head coach of the Rip City Remix, which is the G-League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. Sean Sheldon '16 is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz. Daniel Dixon '17 is an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Blue, the NBA G-League program of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
