- Tuesday night's contest will be the Tribe's second trip to Norfolk State in the last three years as the teams meet for the third-straight year. The Spartans have won the last two in the series, including last season in Williamsburg, 67-53. Tuesday is the first of four-straight against Commonwealth opponents as W&M travels to Richmond on Saturday and hosts Old Dominion (Dec. 6) and Virginia University-Lynchburg (Dec. 10) the following week.
- The Tribe owns a balanced attack as five players are scoring in double figures. The only time in program history that five Tribe players averaged double-digits was in 2017-18. Junior
Gabe Dorsey leads the team at 17.4 points per game, which ranks seventh in the CAA. Sophomore
Chase Lowe is averaging 13.9 per contest followed by
Noah Collier (13.0) and
Trey Moss (13.0), and
Sean Houpt (10.7).
- Junior
Gabe Dorsey continues to be one of the top shooters in the country. After ranking fourth in the country in 3-point % last season, he leads the nation in 3's per game (4.6) and total 3-pointers (32), as of Nov. 27. Dorsey is shooting 49.2% (32-of-65) from distance this season, which is 11th nationally.
- Sophomore
Chase Lowe has made a significant impact in his second season, averaging 13.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He is one of two players in the CAA to rank in the top 20 in all three categories. Lowe is 11th in the league in scoring and 15th in rebounding and 16th in assists. He has scored in double figures in six of seven games this season, including a career-high 22 against UMBC.
- The Tribe has protected the basketball and dished it out at a good rate this season. W&M ranks fourth in the CAA in assists per game (14.1) and are led by sophomore
Charlie Williams' 3.3 per contest. The Tribe also ranks third in the CAA in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.30), which is 88th in the country. Williams' a/t ratio of 3.8 is 34th in the country. As a team, the Tribe has produced three games with single-digit turnovers this season and rank 78th nationally at just 10.9 turnovers per game.
- Coming off a career-high 27 points vs. UMBC,
Gabe Dorsey leads the CAA and ranks among the national leaders in effective field goal % and true shooting %. He is 17th in the country with a true shooting % of 73.5 and 34th nationally in effective field goal % at 70.3.
- With his strong start to the season, Lowe has been one of the most efficient and effective players in the CAA. He ranks second in the league in player efficiency at 31.2 and leads the CAA in win shares (+1.2).
- The Tribe has used the free throw line to its advantage in the early part of the season. W&M ranks fourth in the CAA in free throw % (73.5) and second in free throws made per game (15.9). The Green and Gold owns three of the top free throws shooters in the CAA. Gabe Drosey ranks second in the league in FT% (94.7) followed by Houpt, who is third (93.8%). Lowe is 13th in the league at 79.5%. Dorsey and Houpt rank 32nd and 34th nationally in FT%, while Lowe is 56th nationally in free throws made (31).
- The Tribe has been strong on the glass this season, outrebounding six of its first seven opponents. W&M ranks fourth in the CAA in rebounds per game (37.7) and third in rebounding margin (+4.7), which is also 98th nationally. The Tribe averages 10 offensive rebounds and 12.6 second chance points per contest.
- In its game at George Washington on Nov. 11, the Tribe knocked down 18 3-pointers, which ranks as the third most in program history. It is the most for a CAA program against a DI opponent since 2020 and the second most for a team nationally against a D1 opponent this season, as of Nov. 27. The Tribe ranks 20th in 3-pointers attempted (28.6) and 39th in 3-pointers made per game (9.6).
- W&M turned in one of the top defensive performances in Kaplan Arena history, limiting Regent to a Kaplan Arena record-tying low of 29 points on Nov. 6. W&M also held Catholic to 29 points in 1981. The 29 points marked the best defensive performance since holding Little Creek Amphibious Base to 26 in 1949.
- 2020 graduate Nathan Knight, who was the National Mid-Major Player of the Year in 2020, signed an NBA 2-way deal with the Boston Celtics prior to the start of the season. He has played 108 games over his three-year NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks, helping both organizations to the playoffs. Knight is the third W&M player, joining Marcus Thornton (Cleveland Cavaliers 10-day contract in 2018) and Daniel Dixon (Boston Celtics preseason Exhibit 10 deal in 2017) to sign an NBA deal since 2017.
- A trio of former W&M players are currently on coaching staffs in the NBA and NBA G-League. Jim Moran '01 is the head coach of the Rip City Remix, which is the G-League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. Sean Sheldon '16 is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz. Daniel Dixon '17 is an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Blue, the NBA G-League program of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
