Men's Basketball Hosts Black Out on Saturday vs. UMBC

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's basketball returns home for the first time in 16 days and will host a Black Out on Saturday afternoon against UMBC. Join the Tribe and wear black as W&M debuts new black uniforms during the Thanksgiving weekend. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FloHoops.

 Tribe fans can catch the action on the Tribe Sports Network with Jay Colley and Bobby Dwyer on the call. Locally in Williamsburg, fans can listen in on The Tide 92.3 FM.

W&M News and Notes
- W&M is 5-2 all-time against the America East Conference and has played three of the nine current members of the league. Three of the seven games against the America East Conference have come vs. UMBC.
 
- The Tribe owns a balanced attack as five players are scoring in double figures. The only time in program history that five Tribe players averaged double-digits was in 2017-18. In three of the Tribe's first six games, it has had five players score in double figures. Junior Gabe Dorsey leads the team at 15.8 points per game, which ranks ninth in the CAA. Junior Noah Collier is averaging 13 per game followed by sophomores Chase Lowe (12.5) and Trey Moss (12.3), and graduate student Sean Houpt (10.7). 
 
- Junior Gabe Dorsey continues to be one of the top shooters in the country. After ranking fourth in the country in 3-point % last season, he ranks second in the nation in 3's per game (4.3) and third in total 3-pointers (26), as of Nov. 23. Dorsey is shooting 49.1% (26-of-53) from distance this season, which 25th nationally.
 
- Sophomore Chase Lowe has made a significant impact in his second season, averaging 12.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He is one of two players in the CAA, along with 2023 league rookie of the year Max Mackinnon, to rank in the top 25 in all three categories. Lowe is 15th in the league in scoring, 16th in rebounding and 23rd in assists. He has scored in double figures in five of six games this season, including a career-high 17 against Lindenwood.
 
- The Tribe has used the free throw line to its advantage in the early part of the season. W&M ranks third in the CAA in both free throw % (72.9) and free throws made per game (15.7). The Green and Gold owns two of the top free throws shooters in the CAA. Graduate student Sean Houpt ranks second in the CAA and ranks 34th nationally at 93.8%, while Lowe is 11th in the league at 81.8%. Lowe also ranks second in the league and 55th nationally, as of Nov. 23, in free throws made (27).
 
- After missing the final eight games of 2022-23 due to injury and the first three this year following off-season surgery, junior Noah Collier made an impressive return to the Tribe lineup at the Air Force Classic. Over the three games, he averaged 13 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, shooting 65.4% from the field. The 6-8 forward equaled his career-high with 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting vs. Omaha in the opener.
 
- Gabe Dorsey earned all-tournament honors at the Air Force Classic last weekend. Dorsey averaged 16 points per game, hitting 13-of-27 (48.1%) from 3 over the three games. He scored a season-high 20 points in the opener vs. Omaha.
 
- The Tribe has been strong on the glass this season, outrebounding five of its first six opponents. W&M ranks third in the CAA in rebounds per game (38.2) and fourth in rebounding margin (+4.7). The Green and Gold averages 10.3 offensive rebounds and 13.7 second chance points per contest, outscoring its opponents by over six points per game in the category.
 
- In its game at George Washington on Nov. 11, the Tribe knocked down 18 3-pointers, which ranks as the third most in program history. It is the most for a CAA program against a DI opponent since 2020 and the second most for a team nationally against a D1 opponent this season, as of Nov. 21. The Tribe ranks 21st in 3-pointers attempted (29.2) and 37th in 3-pointers made per game (9.7), as of Nov. 23.
 
- W&M turned in one of the top defensive performances in Kaplan Arena history, limiting Regent to a Kaplan Arena record-tying low of 29 points on Nov. 6. W&M also held Catholic to 29 points in 1981. The 29 points marked the best defensive performance since holding Little Creek Amphibious Base to 26 in 1949.
 
- 2020 graduate Nathan Knight, who was the National Mid-Major Player of the Year in 2020, signed an NBA 2-way deal with the Boston Celtics prior to the start of the season. He has played 108 games over his three-year NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks, helping both organizations to the playoffs. Knight is the third W&M player, joining Marcus Thornton (Cleveland Cavaliers 10-day contract in 2018) and Daniel Dixon (Boston Celtics preseason Exhibit 10 deal in 2017) to sign an NBA deal since 2017.
 
- A trio of former W&M players are currently on coaching staffs in the NBA and NBA G-League. Jim Moran '01 is the head coach of the Rip City Remix, which is the G-League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. Sean Sheldon '16 is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz. Daniel Dixon '17 is an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Blue, the NBA G-League program of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
