W&M News and Notes
- The Tribe makes its first trip to the state of Colorado to play in the Air Force Classic, Nov. 16-19. W&M will play Omaha (Thursday) and Lindenwood (Sunday) for the first time, and Air Force (Friday) for the third time but first in at the USAFA.

- The Green and Gold is 3-0 all-time against teams from the Summit League, which Omaha is a member. W&M last faced a member of the Summit League, which started as the Mid-Continent Conference before rebranding in 2007, when it defeated Western Illinois, who moved to the Missouri Valley Conference this season, in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. The Tribe also topped current Summit League member Oral Roberts, 82-76 in OT, in the United Airlines Tip-off Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1999.

- In its game at George Washington, the Tribe knocked down 18 3-pointers, which ranks as the third most in program history. It is the most for a CAA program against a DI opponent since 2020 and the most for any team nationally against a D1 opponent this season. The Tribe's 44 3-point attempts against GW rank second in school history. Nationally, the Green and Gold is ninth in 3-pointers attempted (32.3) and 13th in 3-pointers made per game (11.7).

- W&M dished out 23 assists on its 31 made field goals at George Washington. According to KenPom.com, the Tribe ranks 31st nationally in assist rate, assisting on 64.2% of its made field goals. On the year, the Green and Gold ranks second in the CAA and 66th nationally at 17 assists per game.

- Defense has been a key for W&M to start the 2023-24 season. The Tribe leads the CAA in scoring defense (60 ppg), FG% defense (36.5%), and 3FG% defense (21%). Those numbers rank among the national leaders coming in 45th, 55th and 14th, respectively, in the country.

- The Tribe has been the best free throw shooting team in the CAA over the opening three games. W&M is shooting 76.8% at the charity stripe, which also ranks 59th nationally. They were a perfect 9-of-9 at GW, the first time a Tribe team has been perfect since 2018. W&M also ranks 65th in the country in free throws made per game (17.7).

- The Tribe owns a balanced scoring attack this season. W&M is one of two CAA teams with four players ranked among the top 20 in the league in scoring. Junior Gabe Dorsey leads the team at 15.7 points per game (12th in the CAA) followed by graduate student Sean Houpt at 14.7 (13th). Sophomores Trey Moss and Chase Lowe ranked 19th in the league at 12.3 points per game. In two of the Tribe's first three games, it has had five players in double figures.

- Junior guard Gabe Dorsey continues to be one of the top shooters in the country. After ranking fourth in the country in 3-point % last season, he started the week leading the country in 3-pointers made with 13 during the opening week of the season. In total, he is shooting 50% (13-of-26) from distance this season. He ranks second in the CAA and seventh nationally, hitting 4.3 3-pointers per contest.

- W&M turned in one of the top defensive performances in Kaplan Arena history, limiting Regent to a Kaplan Arena record-tying low of 29 points on Nov. 6. W&M also held Catholic to 29 points in 1981. The 29 points marked the best defensive performance since holding Little Creek Amphibious Base to 26 in 1949.

- Sophomore Chase Lowe has made a significant impact off the bench, averaging 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He is the only player in the CAA to rank in the top 20 in all three categories. Lowe is 16th in the league in rebounding, 18th in assists and 19th in scoring.

- Graduate student Sean Houpt has led the Tribe in scoring in each of the last two games with 17 points against both American and GW. Of those 34 points, 29 have come in the second half. Houpt ranks 13th in the CAA in scoring (14.7), fourth in FT% (.900), eighth in 3-pointers made (3.0) and fifth in 3FG% (.450).

- W&M's 7.5-game improvement in 2022-23 ranked second in the CAA and among the top 30 in the country. The Green and Gold won 13 games last season, including seven in CAA play.

- 2020 graduate Nathan Knight, who was the National Mid-Major Player of the Year in 2020, signed an NBA 2-way deal with the Boston Celtics prior to the start of the season. He has played 108 games over his three-year NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks, helping both organizations to the playoffs. Knight is the third W&M player, joining Marcus Thornton (Cleveland Cavaliers 10-day contract in 2018) and Daniel Dixon (Boston Celtics preseason Exhibit 10 deal in 2017) to sign an NBA deal since 2017.

- A trio of former W&M players are currently on coaching staffs in the NBA and NBA G-League. Jim Moran '01 is the head coach of the Rip City Remix, which is the G-League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. Sean Sheldon '16 is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz. Daniel Dixon '17 is an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Blue, the NBA G-League program of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
