TRIBE NOTES

 • The Matchup
William & Mary faces their fourth in-state opponent in as many games, as they search for win No. 1 on the year against Virginia. The Tribe and Hoos meet for the third time since the turn of the century and second time in Charlottesville since 1997.

• The Opponent
The Cavaliers of Virginia are off to a 2-0 start disposing of UMES and Campbell by 20+ points. UVA finished 15-15 with a 4-14 record in the ACC last season. The Hoos have four players averaging double-digits through two games led by Camryn Taylor's 19 per game.

• Last Time Out
The Tribe hosted a back and forth contest against George Mason on Sunday, losing 77-72. Neither team led by more than eight in the game. The Tribe found themselves down by that exact margin with 3:30 to go before making a run, having a chance to tie the game with 9.9 seconds left. W&M fell to 0-3 for the first time since 2013-14.

• Nylon Nylah
Nylah Young is off to a historic start through three games of her William & Mary career. The Hampton transfer is second in the nation in points (78) through the first week of the season, only behind Iowa's Caitlin Clark. Young has put up 29, 26 and 23 in the first three games, with Sunday's 23 being part of a double-double with 10 rebs. Young is the first W&M player to start the season with three 20+ point performances in over 25 years.

• The Energizer Bella
Bella Nascimento has been another Tribe transfer who has made her presence felt early in the season. The former Manhattan Jasper has been in double figures every game this season, but has also set a career-high in minutes played in each of the first three games. Nascimento spent 37:54 on the floor against Mason on Sunday with 18 points and a career-high tying six assists.

• Record Setting Start for Young
Nylah Young wasted no time getting acclimated in her first ever game in Green and Gold. The Hampton transfer put up 29 points on 9-for-14 shooting. The effort set the mark for most points ever by a Tribe player in a season opener.

• Dribble, Shoot, Spike?
Bella Nascimento transferred to William & Mary from Manhattan after averaging nearly 10 points per game for the Jaspers, but that's not all she did athletically. Nascimento was a member of the Manhattan volleyball team last year, playing in 39 sets over 11 matches. She picked up 30 kills for the Jaspers.

•Sharing is Caring
20 of the Tribe's 25 buckets on Sunday were assisted on against George Mason. W&M hit 20+ helpers for the first time since February 2020, and the first time against a DI non-conference opponent since November of 2019 against Delaware State.

• In-State Battles
The Tribe's 23-24 schedule features a plethora of Commonwealth opponents. The Tribe will face nine in-state teams this year over 10 contests. Seven of their 11 non-con games are against Virginia teams.
