WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - William & Mary volleyball is back at home this weekend for a pair of matches with Stony Brook Saturday and Sunday in Kaplan Arena at 1:00 p.m. The contests will mark the second and third in history between the two programs, and the first matches between the Tribe and Seawolves as CAA rivals. Both matches will be streamed on FloVolleyball.
The Tribe (7-5, 2-2) is coming off a 1-1 weekend against preseason co-favorite Elon, while Stony Brook (5-8, 0-4) dropped a pair of matches to Towson last weekend. William & Mary will look to improve on an impressive 3-1 record in Kaplan Arena as the calendar turns to October.
William & Mary senior
Anna Porter was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of tremendous outings at Elon last weekend. Porter recorded 46 digs over eight sets, surpassing the 900 career dig mark and added 10 assists. The libero has recorded 114 digs over the Green and Gold's last five matches and ranks second in the league averaging 4.70 digs per set.
As a team, the Tribe is averaging 15.34 digs per frame, second best in the CAA. In Sunday's win, the Green and Gold saw four players, including freshmen
Kaitlyn Dunnigan and
Lindsay Kahren record double-digit digs.
On the offensive side of the net,
Eleanor Stothoff surged into the top-five in the CAA in kills per set after slamming 38 attacks for a point last weekend. Stothoff hit .385 on the weekend and is averaging 3.23 kills per set on the year.
Amy Schwem and
Emma Minnick have run an efficient offense with 5.52 and 4.61 assists per set respectively. The Tribe has had an extremely balanced attack with six players averaging at least two kills per set.
Junior middle
Sabrina Malcolm has been dominant on both sides of the net for the Tribe and ranks fifth in the league with a .327 hitting percentage. Malcolm also leads the team with 35 total blocks and is second with 10 service aces.
