WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary lacrosse head coach Colleen Dawson has announced the hiring of Rebecca Lane and Theadora Kwas as assistant coaches.
 
"I am thrilled to announce Rebecca Lane and Theadora Kwas as our assistant coaches," Dawson said. "Both Bec and Theo had tremendous collegiate playing careers at Saint Joseph's University '19 and the University of Maryland '17, respectively. Most recently, they both represented Team Australia at the Women's Lacrosse World Championships and the World Games. Adding their lacrosse depth, understanding, and knowledge will make an immediate impact for our student-athletes and significantly enhance our program in every area. Their experience as players, combined with their exceptional coaching ability, will set us up for success in the CAA and nationally for years to come."
 
Lane and Kwas come to Williamsburg following an impressive playing careers that included performing on the international stage as members of the Senior Australian Women's Lacrosse Team from 2017-22. Lane served as a co-captain on the bronze medal winning squad at the 2022 World Games and both players helped the team place fourth at the 2022 World Lacrosse Championships. Their efforts also helped the team garner the bronze medal at the 2017 World Games and a fourth-place finish at the 2017 FIL World Cup.
 
Additionally, they competed with the U19 Australian Women's Lacrosse Team in 2011 and 2015. Lane served as a co-captain of the squad in 2015 and earned multiple game MVP honors, while both were selected to the All-World Team. They also helped the team earn a silver medal at the 2011 FIL World Cup.
 
Lane began her coaching career at her alma mater, Saint Joseph's University, where she served two seasons as a student assistant coach. With her guidance, the Hawks compiled a 14-10 record, which included a 6-2 mark in the Atlantic 10 in 2021.
 
Prior to joining the Hawks' coaching staff, Lane established herself as one of the greatest players in SJU history. A two-time Atlantic 10 all-conference selection, she finished her career as the program's all-time record holder for assists (84). Additionally, Lane is one of just two players in school history to total more than 200 points, which included 125 goals – an impressive figure that ranks fifth all-time at SJU.
 
The two-time team captain led the Hawks to four consecutive A-10 postseason appearances from 2016-19 and was honored as the A-10 Rookie of the Year following a tremendous rookie campaign.
 
Lane also excelled academically, earning an A-10 Postgraduate Scholarship for performing with distinction both in the classroom and on the field while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
 
Lane earned an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master's degree in writing studies at SJU. 
 
Kwas competed collegiately at the University of Maryland from 2014-17 where she helped the Terps win three national titles and four Big Ten conference championships. The impressive stretch marked the most successful run since Maryland's powerhouse decade when they won eight out of 10 national championships, including seven in a row between 1995 and 2001.
 
After a tremendous collegiate playing career, she entered the coaching ranks as an undergraduate student assistant at Maryland during the 2018 season and helped the top-ranked Terps post a 20-2 record and advance to the NCAA Semifinals.
 
Honored as a Big Ten conference distinguished scholar twice (2016, 2017), she earned an undergraduate degree in criminology and criminal justice in 2018.
 
Most recently, Lane and Kwas completed an undefeated season for Footscray Lacrosse Club (Victoria, Australia), taking home the state premiership in a 15-2 finale, with Lane captaining the team and Kwas earning championship MVP honors. Additionally, Lane earned the Victorian women's lacrosse league's best and fairest award for the 2022 season, while Kwas earned the league's highest goal scoring award, tallying 37 goals in 10 games.
