CONCORD, N.C. – Opening the season against a loaded field, William & Mary men's cross country finished third and topped SEC foe Georgia in the Charlotte Open on Friday morning at Frank Liske Park.
All four teams in the field were among the top 15 in the USTFCCCA Regional rankings. North Carolina, who is ranked No. 3 in the Southeast Region and No. 16 nationally, won the team event with 20 points followed by Charlotte, who was No. 5 in the South Region. The Tribe, which is ranked No. 14 in the Southeast Region to start 2022, finished third at 93 points ahead of Georgia, who was No. 11 in the South Region during the preseason.
Making his first appearance for the Tribe, sophomore
Nate Jennings led the way, placing 20th in a time of 15:27.9.
Sophomore All-CAA harriers
Jacob Jones and
Sam Pritchard followed in close succession in 23rd and 24th place. Jones crossed the line in 15:34.3 just ahead of Pritchard by .4 seconds.
Rounding out the Tribe's scoring group were sophomores
Stephen Larson and
Harrison Vives. Larson crossed the line in 15:50.2 to finish 30th followed by Vines in 31st.
The Tribe returns to action at the CNU XC Regional Preview in Newport News, Va., on Friday, Sept. 16.
