BOONE, N.C. — The William & Mary men's and women's cross country programs finished runner-up at the Firetower Project Run in Boone, N.C. on Friday evening.
The women's squad tallied 76 points (9-12-13-14-28) to take second place in the 12-team 6k-race hosted by Appalachian State. The Tribe placed four runners in the top-15 and saw three student-athletes post personal best.
Virginia Tech captured the team title by placing each of the top seven runners for a perfect score of 15.
Junior
Molly Weithman led the charge with a ninth place finish crossing the line in 21:25.4 to pace the Tribe.
Abby Lane and
Caroline Sapperstein logged personal best marks in the 6k, finishing in 21:43.3 and 21:45.6, to finish 12
th and 13
th, respectively. Sophomore
Veronica Znajda claimed 14th place with a time of 21:49.4.
Chloe Miller rounded out the W&M scorers tallying a 29
th place finish after stopping the clock in 22:32.9.
On the men's side, W&M finished inside the top-two for the third time in as many as events. The tribe placed all five scorers in the top-five to rack up a team score of 45 points (3-6-8-13-15), only trailing Virginia Tech (19) in the 12-team field.
Senior standout
Hayes Trapp placed third in the 115-runner field completing the 8k in 23:56.7. Junior
Alex Jordan followed closely behind cruising in with a personal best mark of 24:07. Rookie
Tristan Thurneysen delivered his best performance of his young collegiate career, logging an eighth place finish and a time of 24:20.6.
Eric Fagan came in 13
that 24:36 and
Carson Rackley took 15
th place stopping the watch in 24:43.2.

The Tribe will return to action on Friday, October 16 when it competes in the Princeton Fall Classic in the Garden State.
