WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's golf improved 10 shots over the first and second rounds and sits in fifth place after the first day of the W&M Fall Invitational at the Kingsmill Resort River Course.
 
Graduate student Sarah Houle led the way for the Tribe, shooting a 1-under 71 in the second round to earn a spot in the top 10. She sits in sixth place at 1-over 145. Through the opening two rounds, Houle ranks third among all players with eight birdies.
 
W&M sat in seventh place among the 10-team field after one round, before firing a 298 (+10) in round two, which was the third-best second-round score on Monday. In total, the Tribe's 606 (+30) is the 19th-best 36-hole scoring mark in school history.
 
Appearing in their first collegiate events, freshmen Simone Senk and Grace Lu are tied for 27th at 154 (+10). After a difficult opening round, Senk turned in a 1-over 73 in round two, featuring four birdies. Lu's best round came in the first 18, when she fired a 75.
 
Senior Mikah McDonnell and freshman Avery Thompson, who is playing as an individual, are just one shot behind their Tribe teammates in 34th at 155 (+11). Both players fired matching 78-77 over the first two rounds.
 
Richmond leads the tournament at 586 (+10), thanks in large part to an impressive 1-under 287 in round one. Elon is second at 588 (+12) followed by Charleston Southern with a 589 (+13). Richmond's Hannah Lydic fired an opening round 65 and leads the tournament individually at 8-under 136.
 
The final day of the W&M Fall Invitational tees off at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Tribe will be paired with Towson and Longwood.
