WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— After claiming a share of the individual title at the Elon Invitational, William & Mary freshman standout Abigail Avallone was honored as the CAA Co-Women's Golfer of the Week.
 
Competing in just her second collegiate tournament, Avallone charged up the leaderboard during the final round with a bogey-free, 3-under 68 to finish the 54-hole tournament with a 3-under 210 (71-71-68) and tie with Elon's Lilli Downer, who also earned a share of the CAA's top weekly honor.
 
En route to posting the strong finish, the Bethesda, Md., native birdied two of the final three holes to secure a share of the individual title. Additionally, she finished the two-day tournament 5-under on the back nine after carding impressive scores of 33-35-34.
 
Avallone's impressive performance tied for the third-best 54-hole score to par in school history, while her final round tied for the fifth-best score to par in school history. Additionally, she totaled nine birdies at the par-71 Alamance Country Club.
 
Led by Avallone's outstanding effort, W&M placed second at the 15-team tournament with a 30-over 882 (293-293-296), which ties for the program's seventh-best 54-hole score to par. Additionally, it marked the second consecutive week that W&M has earned runner-up honors as a team, as it also placed second at the season-opening Tribe Invitational.
 
Avallone's showing at Elon came after an impressive debut last week when she tied for fifth at the Tribe Invitational .
 
W&M will return to action when it competes at the Evie Odom Invitational hosted by ODU (Oct. 9-11).
