WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - Historic afternoon performances by
Anna Porter and
Ryann Love boosted the Tribe in five sets over George Mason Saturday afternoon. With 32 digs, Porter produced the most digs by a William & Mary player since 2006. Love's nine blocks were the most by a Tribe freshman since
Julia Brown in 2017. The defensive duo led the Tribe to three straight sets after dropping the first two.
The Green and Gold opened Saturday's match with an 11-set winning streak but Mason would take each of the first two stanzas by a 25-21 margin. In the first, Porter had eight digs and
Eleanor Stothoff added four kills in the opener.
The second set saw four kills from
Kaitlyn Ferguson and three from
Sabrina Malcolm, while Malcolm and
Sarah Callender each produced a pair of blocks.
The match turned in the third set as the Tribe raced out to a quick lead behind service aces from
Lindsay Kahren. Love dominated at the net with four blocks adding to Ferguson's three and Callender and
Taylor Burrell would provide three kills for the offense on the way to a 25-18 win.
A late push from George Mason threatened to end the match in four, but the Tribe showed resilience putting away a 25-22 fourth. Porter dug nine attacks and Love had three blocks to slow down Mason's offense. Burrell dominated on the offensive end with five digs on eight attacks.
In the decisive fifth, the Tribe hit .381 and held Mason to .000 with 11 kills to the Patriots' three. Malcolm was errorless with three kills while Kahren added three blocks to four from Porter. The win extended the Tribe's winning streak to five matches.
