WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary relief pitcher Carter Lovasz has been named to Collegiate Baseball's Freshman All-American Team as announced by the publication Wednesday morning. Lovasz is the sixth Tribe player to earn the distinction, and the first since Brandon Raquet in 2017. The Midlothian product had a 2-1 record and led the Tribe with five saves.
 
Lovasz was dominant throughout his freshman campaign finishing fifth in the nation with a 0.85 WHIP. The righty tossed 52.0 innings and struck out 41 men, both good for second on the team, while walking only 12. Lovasz allowed just 17 earned runs in sixteen outings and held opponents to a CAA-best .179 batting average against. 
 
In CAA games, Lovasz was even better, posting a 1.96 ERA in 23.0 innings over seven outings. The righty allowed just 11 hits, three for extra-bases in conference games for a WHIP of 0.73 with an opponent batting average of just .145. Four of his five saves came in CAA matchups. 
 
Lovasz made a statement in his first collegiate outing, allowing just one hit and striking out five over 4.0 scoreless frames in a victory over Rhode Island. He earned his first collegiate win Mar. 5 tossing 4.0 innings, allowing just one run, and striking out four in the Tribe's victory over Lafayette. Later that month Lovasz would allow one hit over 3.0 innings to earn his first collegiate save. 
 
Overall, Lovasz allowed zero runs in seven of his appearances and held opponents to one earned run or fewer in 11 outings. Seven times on the year opponents mustered one or fewer hits against the righty and he struck out at least one man in 15 of his 16 outings, 13 times punching out multiple batters.
