RICHMOND, VA.- Freshman phenom
Carter Lovasz has been named to the VaSID all-state second team as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon. Lovasz picks up the honor after being named a freshman All-American, All-CAA, and to the CAA All-Rookie team earlier this month. William & Mary has landed at least one player on the VaSID all-state team in each of the past four seasons.
The right-handed reliever led the Tribe with five saves on the season and also recorded a pair of wins. Lovasz finished fifth in the nation and first among all freshmen with a 0.85 WHIP. The reliever was tough on hitters all season with a CAA second-best batting average against of .179.
The Virginia native was second on the team with 52.0 innings pitched and struck out 41 to just 12 walks. Lovasz picked up his first career win against Lafayette, striking out four men over 4.0 innings of work. He later picked up a win at VCU tossing 3.0 strong frames.
The reliable reliever picked up his first collegiate save against George Mason on March 18 and settled into his role as the Tribe's shutdown man. Lovasz would go on to earn saves against Northeastern, Hofstra, Delaware, and Elon during his freshman season.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
