The Tribe scored six team points over the course of the weekend's 21 events, and had five top-10 finishers in the event that includes teams from every state north of South Carolina and east of the Mississippi River. Army West Point won the team trophy with 81 points, ahead of runner-up Albany (73 points). 400m Hurdles
On Sunday, W&M's entries included decathlete
Daniel Layton (Waynesburg, Pa.), who finished 12th overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.16 seconds. This spring, Layton won the decathlon at the CAA Championships, and also set personal bests in seven other events, including his best 400m hurdles of 54.60 set at the Colonial Relays. Indoors, he also set lifetime-bests in the 60m dash, 400m dash, 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and in the heptathlon, where he finished third overall at the IC4A Championships.
Triple Jump
In the triple jump,
Harrison Duncan (Ivor, Va.) was unable to find a solid jump, and wrapped up a breakout season. Duncan won the CAA title in the triple jump last weekend, the first for the Tribe since 1993, and also recorded the best outdoor mark in the long jump since 1993 with his leap of 7.03m (23-0.75) to win the university division at the Colonial Relays.
With the regular season now complete, William & Mary awaits word of any possible invitations to the NCAA Championships later this week. The top 48 entrants in each individual event in the East Region, as well as the top-24 teams in both the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay, will earn a selection to the Eastern Preliminary Rounds at Bloomington, Ind., May 25-28. The top-12 finishers in each event will then qualify onward for the NCAA Championship finals in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11. Sophomore
Chris Arias (Red Bank, N.J.) currently ranks 25th in the javelin, and should be in good position to make the eastern prelims pending results from other last chance meets this weekend.
